Commercial Description:
Dating back to 18th century England, the custom of blending pale and dark beers has kept the "Black & Tan" a favorite of experienced beer drinkers for centuries. Our famous recipe combines a robust English Porter with a fine Continental Pilsner, preserving the character of each, while creating the classic taste of the legendary "Black & Tan." In true American style, we bring you the best of both beers as they meet in Mississippi Mud.

Light tan head that was huge when I poured it out. The color of the body is a very dark amber. If this is a porter, it is very light colored for the style. The aroma is like light coffee and a little bit of cola. The taste is iced tea with a little bit of grass. A decent session brew that is nothing very exciting. Great bottle, though.

Bonus points for the cool big-ass bottle. Clear, tea colored with a big foamy head. Toasty, malty aroma. Earthy, bready flavor, with a slightly sour hop bite. While the aforementioned bottle is cool, it can be a bit of chore to drink 36oz of it, because it gets a bit boring after a while.

Pours the color of Coke with a big off-white head. Tastes like cheap brew mixed with a porter. Finishes with a slight roasted flavor, but doesn’t really taste like quality craftsmanship.

I tried this a couple of times in college and never bothered to come back to it for a rating because, frankly, it’s not very good. The bottles pretty cool and it is actually a very nice looking beer--medium garnet with a nice, creamy head. Like all of these bottle black and tans it’s more like a dark lager than it is an actual black and tan. In this case, it has a definite sweet, malty edge with a bit of molasses and some dark, fruity notes along with some chocolate. The mouthfeel is pleasantly thick but the carbonation is dead and entirely boring. Mine was well within the expiration date but it had a slight sour off note. It gets a bit taxing after a while.

Brown Coloring... Tannish Head. Little Bit of Chocolate. More Watery then I Was Hoping For. Pretty ’muddy’...Nothing Real Amazing or Distinctive about it.
