Dating back to 18th century England, the custom of blending pale and dark beers has kept the "Black & Tan" a favorite of experienced beer drinkers for centuries. Our famous recipe combines a robust English Porter with a fine Continental Pilsner, preserving the character of each, while creating the classic taste of the legendary "Black & Tan." In true American style, we bring you the best of both beers as they meet in Mississippi Mud.

can @ Party Town / Florence KY --- Clear amber brown color, frothy beige head that slowly drops, clouds of lace. Aroma of thin malt. Taste is watery chocolate malt that moves through a weak palate to a finish that has, at best, hidden hops. Overall, isn’t a black and tan at all - just a thin, pretend Porter. I expected little more than another rating here, and it didn’t even deliver that.

Aroma is brown sugar. Pours flat - tiny head with no visible lacing. Flavor is toffee and caramel. I would rather pour my own black & tan, but it was fun trying this for an experiment.

Amber pour with small head and quite a bit of carbonation. Aroma faintly malty and sweetness. Flavor some roasted malt, very little hops. Not much of a body and nor really any finish. Still an enjoyable drink for what ii is and you’ve got to like the bottle!

I tried this wonderful Mississippi Mud while preparing yesterday afternoon with Spanish rice and dry sausage and ham Viennese German. Output wineries Utica, New York, this mestizo elixir, the result of a cross between an ancient blending pale and dark beer, brings all the wild spirit of the deepest Mississippi. In the residual bouquet discover that primary and mysterious lowland South, beasts and flowers included character is inevitable. And his dark golden color is as good golds. To drink at a stretch must be trained in the arts of cerveceril suction, as this Mississippi Mud is wrapped in a very beautiful and giant glazed earthenware bottle containing a quart inside. And treasure it offers the advantage of once it has been emptied, for its aesthetic is perfect. So my advice already intuit: drink it on a hot afternoon, to the sound of a jazz sung by Cassandra Wilson, in the shade of a bush either.

$3.49 jug. Pours a clear, dark brown with a decent off-white head. Aroma is roasted malts and some hops. Taste is the same, watered down porter. Some astringency in the finish, which is its only major flaw. Drinks easy and very reasonably priced.
