Not the best. Drinkable. Pours dark brown with a tan head. Aroma is like a wet paper bag. Finishes with a light hop bite.

Pour is a still and pale brown, not a lot going on with it. Smell is damp grains, light toffee, small coffee and roast but watered down. Taste follows with the watered down qualities. I’m not impressed

I mean you know. It’s malty like a dark beer but light like a pilsner... Pretty much what you would expect. It’s not bad!

Originally rated on 6/14/08. Always wanted to try this interesting looking beer, I like the jug, but the beer is less interesting. Kinda bummed out that its not from mississippi, oh well. Pours a dark amber color with a thin light tan head, not much aroma however. The taste was very slightly metallic, but after that faded it was a little sweet with hints of toasted malts, slightly bitter. Overall its pretty average.

I always meant to try this one. I guess the jug looked cool. I poured it from the can into a pilsner glass. It pours a dark amber and red color with a beige head and little lacing. The aroma was caramel, toffee, and metallic. The taste was toffee, caramel, some bitterness, and metallic. This tasted a bit off.

Better then drinking Budweiser when your broke. Pours a dark color,Smell is of caramel and cheap porter. Watery and taste leaves quickly. At least you get a Pint of it. I’ve had worse porters then this..

Jug from Trader Joe’s. Always wanted to try this one, but never got around to it. Today’s the day.... It pours a dark reddish amber color. Clear with a fluffy eggshell colored head. The aroma has some weird peanut shell thing going on with a little toast, cocoa and cardboard. The flavor is the same. Not horrible, just kinda thin and lifeless. Peanuts, cardboard, toast and cocoa. Mild acidity with a hint of earthy bitterness in a mostly toasted finish. I could see mindlessly drinking this again if I had to, but I wouldn’t really look forward to it.

Rated from old notes. A pilsener porter mix with a creamy head. The color of muddy water. Interesting mix with noticeable presence of hops & chocolate. Can pleasantly enough be drunken in quantity.

16 ounce can into pint glass, canned on 1/22/2015. Pours slightly hazy reddish brown color with a 2 finger dense and fluffy light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of chocolate, cocoa, caramel, brown bread, toasted biscuit, nuttiness, light coffee, light herbal, and roast/toasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt and light earthy hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of chocolate, cocoa, caramel, brown bread, toasted biscuit, nuttiness, light coffee, light herbal, and roast/toasted earthiness. Light herbal/roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of chocolate, cocoa, caramel, brown bread, toasted biscuit, nuttiness, light coffee/herbal, and roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and light earthy hop flavors; with a great roasted bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready, and lightly sticky/chalky balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming present after the finish as expected of 5%. Overall this is a nice black and tan style. All around good complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and light earthy hop flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.
