Moa Breakfast is a European style beer brewed with a blend of premium wheat malt and a variety of floral hops. A very refreshing lager with an abundance of cherry character and aromas, Moa Breakfast is more commonly enjoyed as a mid-afternoon beverage here in New Zealand. Although not always.

Tasting Notes
Moa Breakfast is a wheat beer based lager with a subtle, sweet cherry aroma and taste. Hints of almond, banana and vanilla characters can also be detected. Low bitterness levels and an absence of strong malt characters emphasise these fruit flavours. Moa Breakfast can either be poured carefully off the lees or alternatively with the lees mixed in if a stronger yeast character is desired. Moa Breakfast is best served at approximately 4°C in a pilsner glass.

Draft. Medium white head with hazy straw body. Aroma is moderately sweet, cherry (mostly sweet, hint of tart), light cereal, grape. Taste is moderately sweet, cherry, light grape, cereal. Soft light-medium body, surprisingly drinkable.

Draft at Churchkey. Clear light gold. Nose holds pure corn starch and red Twizzlers. Flavor might actually be worse, with bits of sweet vanilla working in with the disgusting mareschino sweetness. Really just awful, I don’t know how this beer is getting good reviews; this was from a fresh key keg. Maybe just a weird batch or something strange happened in transport? Alas.

Whole Foods, Bowery 375ml ($7): Pours a peach color with a white head. Aroma is cherry, hops, and some other fruit flavors. Taste is slightly sweet at the front and then gets more bitter towards the finish, with a sort of dry feel towards the back. Fruitiness is way lower than I expected at the outset. Aftertaste is, however, very cherry. Pretty good beer. Would be a nice session. Alas, too expensive.

This is my third Moa beer, and I haven’t been that impressed. But this one is new (newer) and I had to try it. The beer pours a light orange and has a lovely aroma. The flavor is... well, WOW. It is loaded with orange zest and leave the mouth with a pillow of flavor. VERY well done and my favorite Moa beer so far.

Draft at Eulogy. Yellow amber with a large marshmallow white head. Medicinal strawberry off the nose. Floral cherry on the tongue. Juicier than most flavored lagers/wheat beers but still feels way too light. Good enough for breakfast I suppose but otherwise like a soda pop.

This beer is one of a kind. The nose is cherry kool-aid but the beer is dry and crisp. The cherry is only experienced in the nose. Very light with striking white head. A good looking beer with a champagne-like character. Not overly bitter, slightly sour and light in a good way.

UPDATED: FEB 11, 2013 Bottle. Pours a hazy orange gold with a finger of quickly settling rocky white head. Aroma is fruity, yeasty, cherry, sweet, bread, slight syrup/medicine. Flavor is sweet wheat and cherries up front fading into mild bitter wheat finish. Slightly syrupy/medicinal after taste. Moderate carbonation, light body, and a slightly crisp but ultimately watery texture. Claims to use natural flavoring but tastes quite artificial to me. A mediocre fruit beer, my least favorite of moa’s offerings.

Location: 12.7 oz cork and caged bottle from Total Wine-McLean, 2/5/13

Aroma: The nose is extremely sweet, with lots of fruit on the nose: berries, cherries, etc
Appearance: It pours a hazed golden-orange color with a small froth of white head
Flavor: It tastes rather sweet, but it has enough of something to keep the sweetness a little in balance
Palate: The body is fairly light, it clean feel, soft-to-average carbonation, and is minimally cloying
Overall Impression: I figured I’d drink this one "mid-afternoon," since that is the time it is most commonly enjoyed. Anyway, this is an interesting one. It is rather sweet and fruity, which is not something I always enjoy, but the fruitiness works pretty well here. Overall, a very solid fruit beer. Even though it is sweet, the sweetness isn’t too cloying. Nicely done. I could see drinking this one for breakfast.
