COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Moa Five Hop winter ale shows the unique signatures of traditional North European bottle conditioning. Displaying a Nelson-dominant hoppy nose with a subtle oak character leaving extra smooth and creamy, honeyed characters on the palate. A well-balanced companion to eastern style spiced foods. Traditionally served just below room temperature.

Tasting Notes
Moa Five Hop Winter Ale utilises pilsner, Vienna, Munich and crystal malts to produce a distinctive mouth feel and flavour. New Zealand grown B Saaz and Hallertau aroma hops are used to produce an ale with an extremely high bitterness. An English ale yeast completes this ‘Brewer’s Beer’. Moa Five Hop is a strong ale fermented at warm temperatures to maximise aromatic and floral aromas. The English ale yeast provides a low apparent attenuation and sweeter finish. Bottle conditioned, Moa Five Hop will age well. Moa Five Hop is best served at approximately 9-11˚C in a tulip glass.

Bottled. An unclear amber beer with a lazing orange head. The aroma is sweet and very hoppy combined with spices and elderberries as well as lighter notes of bisquites and caramel. The flavor is sweet and very hoppy combined with notes of fruit, caramel, and elderberries, leading to a bitter finish. Thanks Papsoe for supplying this.

(Bottle 37,5 cl) Pours a slightly hazy golden with a tall and lively off-white head. Somewhat unclean fruity and hoppy aroma. Medium body with an almost violent carbonation. Lightly sweet caramel and a lightly fruity touch also. Dry and lightly bitter finish. 250308

Bottled, thanks TimE! Mahogany colour. Caramelly and resiny. Medium bodied with deep, deep layers of caramel. More tar and citrus, mostly toffee and caramel. Lingering but careful bitterness. More warming than refreshing.

Bottle, probably from Pizza Port Bottle Shop. Pours amber with a 2 finger foamy off-white head. Aroma is quite floral. Medium body with frothy carbonation. Flavor is very floral, and it covers mild roast caramel. There is enough non-floral hop to render a mildly harsh bitter, but it’s largely floral. Finishes bitter. There’s a lot of malt here, but the hop handles it well. I really like it.

Bottle. Pours lightly hazy amber with a large, fizzy off-white head, medium-long retention with great lacing. Aroma is heavy biscuit and cereal malt, light toasted and caramel malt, medium earthy and herbal hops, fruity esters, and notes of cedar. Flavor is moderately bitter earthy, spicy, and herbal hops with a nice supporting cereal malt body. Notes of light fruity esters emerge late; well-attenuated with little residual sugar and a dry finish. Medium-light body, low warmth, and moderate carbonation.

3fourths (6949) - Straßgiech, Bavaria, GERMANY - SEP 15, 2010
UPDATED: SEP 16, 2010 375ml, bottle-conditioned, dark green glass, capped. called ’5 hop ale’ with no mention of winter, but appears to be the same beer given their tasting notes and details. amber body, tan head. nose has mild sulfuric skunked notes, medium- chewy caramel malts, mild doughy english ale yeast - slightly dirty - and dried harvest-scented hops (dusty, grainy, gritty but still leafy). medium+ body, mild touch of alcohol on the back. chewy toast and light bourbon-honey flavored malts, medium+ pungent hops: leafy, resinous and drying. medium+ body, natural carbonation is lush. finish has an off smoke note. an interesting beer and perhaps one of the few highly hopped strong english bitter style beer that I would enjoy, if not for the ultraviolet light spoilage.
