2.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 DuffMan (4434) - the land of bitumen, beef & beer, - MAR 7, 2009
This poured a cloudy pale lemon yellow with a big fluffy merangue of a head that showed long retention. Initially there was a hint of grassy hop aroma, but then a mixture of wet hair and candy (Rockets) came forward and never left. The flavour was classic wheaty wit-style with a prominent fruit-candy fakeness that just didn’t sit well with me. There was no flavour of cherries or real fruit of any kind in my bottle. I had my wife try it without any mention of my observations and she noticed the same thing. I would give this a second chance because I feel that I may have gotten an off bottle or something, after having reviewed the other ratings here. A real disappointment.

I was surprised to find this in a local supermarket that wasn’t known for its beer selection. Vitnage 2010 Hazy golden with a fluffy while head. Aromas of sour cherries that have soften over time. This seems to be the predominant flavour as well with lots of lovely cool tingly mouthfeel. The tartness is the most endearing part of this beer but would I go back for seconds? Probably not, because I’d probably be looking for the next intriguing flavourful beer.

Cloudy golden coloured body with a thick, frothy white head. Aroma of pale malt, a touch of wheat, yeast, coriander seed and a very small amount of fruits. Medium-bodied; Assertive wheatie and yeastie flavour with a nice pungent flavour, a touch of light spices and a very minimal amount of sugars and fruits - cherries and dry tart raspberries. Nice assertive aftertaste of yeast and wheat with a bit of coriander seed and a very dry, herbal character near the end. Overall, a nice beer with a good fresh and herbal taste showing well. I sampled this 37.5 cL split bottle purchased from New World Supermarket (Freeman’s Bay store) in Auckland, New Zealand on 22-August-2009 on my honeymoon sampled later in the day.

Bottled. A hazy golden beer with a lazing white head. The aroma has notes of spices combined with lemon, and peaches, as well as lighter notes of cherries, coriander, and wheat. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, wheat, and citrus fruits, as well as lighter notes of straw and cherries, leading to a dry wheaty finish
2.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20 Lunkie (1129) - Glen Iris, AUSTRALIA - MAR 6, 2010
Sweet fruit malt hop aroma. Murky yellow colour with good head and lacing. Sour malt stale fruit cherry flavour. Fizzy palate.

375ml. bottle. bougt this one 7 months ago, so perhaps that explains why it was a bit disappointing. had two other beers from this brewery, and they certainly were better. Perhaps I shouldn’t have had a Rosé de gambrinus before this one either. nevertheless... Appearance clearly indicated this being a wheat beer, like it stated on the bottle. initially the nelson hops were present in the nose, but they evaporated quickly, leaving the cherries as dominant. Alas the cherry aroma as more a fake syruppy thing to me than teh smell of real cherries. the same syrup/ medicine feel lingered through the taste. very little palette whatsoever. a disappointing brew from a brewery I quite liked (stiil do) in NZ
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 KapitiCritique (319) - Kansas City, Missouri, USA - FEB 1, 2010
Good lacing with frothy head and fine bubbles, off white and persistent throughout. Murky yellowish brown hue but not dark, looks as if it has not been overly filtered. Full mouth taste with slightly hoppy yeast. finishing like a fruity lambic without the sourness, but with a hint of cherries. Very nice.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 davidm (1370) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - JAN 7, 2010
Bottle 375ml. Very interesting beer. Aromas of citrus, and tropical fruits. Taste is sweet, with a touch of sourness, and average duration. Palate is oily, and medium-bodied. Cloudy yellow, with a creamy white head.
3.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 creative_free (37) - Wellington, NEW ZEALAND - JAN 3, 2010
Bottle: Sweet aroma with strong hint of cherries. Pale straw colour with huge white head. Interesting taste, quite fruity and sweet with a slight bitterness halfway through I poured in the yeast which gives it a stronger yeast taste which I preferred. Thin bodied but expected for a lager style beer. There is a slightly off-putting aftertaste. Lively carbonation which works well with the style plus it is bottle conditioned which I like. Refreshing drinking this in the sun on a hot day, an interesting lager.
2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 mkel07 (1816) - Brisbane, AUSTRALIA - AUG 30, 2009
375ml bottle. Pale straw colour, almost like champagne, lively in the glass with a huge dense foam cap. Fruity aromas of cherries mixed with hops. Sweet tasting with cherry flavours coming through. Dry on the palate.
2.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 jonno (1460) - JAPAN - AUG 26, 2009
An interesting light nose of cherry gave way to an unspectacular, weak willed, wheat beer. Very light pour, light bodied and had a strange aftertaste. Disappointing from a brewery with such an iconic bird as it’s namesake.
