Tasting Notes
Moa Imperial Stout is a very strong, bold upfront and rich offering of a famous beer style. Aged in Pinot Noir barrels, this beer not only displays coffee and mocha charters but also some sweet and spicy notes. A tannin like finish and an oak induced mellow bitterness makes it a serious stout. Moa Imperial Stout is best served just below room temperature in a tulip glass.

Bottle. Pours very heavily and oily; utterly opaque black with a brown, thick, fine-grained, almost gelid head. Nose is port wine, oak, smoke, and fresh-ground coffee. Very rich and solid on the tongue -- baking chocolate, ginger, molasses, red wine, and glace viande notes take center stage. Round and rich. A meaty, beefy stout, and a damned good one.

Bottle. Deep, dark brown. Had to slop it in the glad to get any cap. Once that happened, it was a dense, tan cap that laced heavily. Aroma is huge coffee, dark chocolate, prune, and vanilla. Terrific smell. Taste boasts the coffee and chocolate, with trailing candied dark fruit blend. Pleasant finish of medium carbonation and a lingering, highly dry note.

Poured from a 375ml bottle. Chocolate, bitter dark chocolate, ash, leather. This smells oxidized, I think it is the barrel. This is very dry.

Bottle. Pours a deep black with a huge tan head that lingers. Big aroma, of roasted malt, dark chocolate, wood, and a wine bite. Taste is complex, with sweet malts, caramel, bitter chocolate, coffee, wood, sour grapes, and booze. Lingering wine and malt notes. Nicely balanced.

UPDATED: SEP 5, 2013 The beer poured a rich dark brown, almost black with a touch of red at the bottom of the glass. There was a very thin layer of head which faded to nothing. The smell was of chocolate & coffee, maybe bit of malt. It tasted amazing, really complex with chocolate, coffee, oak & roasted malt combining for a very enjoyable smoky, lasting, warming flavour. The alcohol was well hidden. Well worth the purchase - I’ll look for this one again.

On tap @ Malt and Vine in Redmond, WA, USA.. Essentially black with a thin, interestingly-almost-white head. Nose is sweet and rich, a lot of dark fruit aroma. Favor is sweet with decent complexity of dark dried fruit and roast, maybe even candy sugar and bubble gum. The harshness of hop, alcohol and burnt malt one might come to expect in an imperial stout is much milder in this beer. Rich but deceiving in its alcoholic strength. Enjoyed this try.

Wood, malt, wine aroma. Pours very dark with a quickly fading tan head. Slight smoke (from the oak?). Red wine dryness countered with a rich velvet feel at the same time. Roasty. Malty. Hints of esters and a bitter cocoa sensation on the finish. Interesting combination. Very nice.

Interesting beer. Pours black with a slight rose color in the head. Strange mix of aromas from grape to coffee. Heavy palate with a dry finish

On tap at Hay Merchant. Pours a very dark brown with medium creamy tan head that lasts awhile. The aroma is strong roast, oak, and dark chcolate. Medium mouthfeel with sweet roasted malt, chocolate, oak and light smoke with lingering dry finish. Very good.
