3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
funded by the $20 I found on the street series: 12.7oz bottle (12.7???) with cork and wire cage. Pours black with a ton of beige head and great lacing. Just now read about how it is best served just below room temperature. Nose is a new cutting board - I really can’t identify it. Flavor adds the Pinot presence, coffee, and ??? So I just looked up Tannin and I’m even more confused. Coffee wine! wife says gross; I say weird. I’m going to buy this again just to have someone else try with me. ABV is well hidden. Why Pinot? This is obviously perplexing. Smoky aftertaste.

Bottle pour to snifter. Very interesting and nothing like I expected. A mild, chocolate/coffee taste and smooth on the palate . . . like a milk stout. No way does this go down like an high ABV. I am sure the wine barrel influences the taste, but I can’t put my finger on it.

Pours a dark brown with an extremely thick/creamy head with perfect retention. Aromas roasted malt, oak impressions, oat/nut, slight grassy hop, mellowness (from aging), cocoa, and coffee. Flavors oak impression all around, cocoa, coffee, backing of grass/herbal hops, roasted malt, caramel , light smoke. Highly sweet and light to medium bitter. No alcohol noticed. Very light after taste.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Tasted at SIBF 2013. Glossy black, very little head. Mild aroma, like a thick, roasty cola. Flavor is a pretty traditional stout -- chocolate, molasses -- definitely on the sweeter side. After a minute, the red wine and a bit of coffee come out, but they’re mild notes.

(375ml bottle) Purchased at Hillside Liquors. Pours a small beige head atop a black head. Aroma of black licorice. Very thin palate, mild molasses and leafy tobacco. Interesting and fun.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours pitch black with a small tan head. Smells of coffee, mild dry tartness, and some solid oak. Taste is bitter coffee, a little bit of oak, and chocolate. Full-bodied with a slick texture and soft mouth-carbonation, Moa Imperial Stout finishes with a mild semisweet chocolate flavor.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
The fruity notes is what sets this one apart. Lots of that rich roasty, coffee, and chocolate aroma with a faint fruit. The rich taste is no surprise but the overall fruitiness is impressive and different. Oh yeah, and it’s really got some fizz...

4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
12.7 fl oz / 375mL corked and caged bottle. Served cool.
Aroma: Very dark roasted coffee. Tiniest hints of chocolate.
Appearance: Completely opaque dark brown body with a light brown foamy head.
Taste: WOW. There is a lot of flavor in this one. Nice dark roasty flavor. The finish has a pretty intense toasted wood flavor.
Palate: Long, luxurious, slightly bittersweet. This a beer to open when it’s cool, and sip on as it warms up.
Overall: I can not get over that flavor. It blows my mind.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
On tap at Burger Bach. Keeps with the New Zealand inspired gastropub theme of the place. Pours black, tan at edges, decent head fades to thin film. Aroma is pleasant, chocolate, slight espresso, hint of pepsin and some fruitiness. Complex and inviting. Flavor is a dead on match. High drinkability for an imperial. Really enjoyable. Medium bodied, I might have liked it just a hair thicker, but this was fantastic. Worked great with the lamb burger.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pour is very dark brown with red/brown edges, small mocha head. Aroma is red wine, oak, chocolate. Taste is roasty dark malt with oak that is a bit overpowering, fruit is present and provides a slight tartness to the beer. Stout in wine barrel works well for me, could have been a bit smoother as the oak a bit abrasive in the finish. Curious if this gets a bit more sour with age - would help this I think.
