3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours black black black with a thick brown head. Quite neutral on the nose, perhaps a bit of liquorice; as it warms more of an alcohol waft floats by. In the mouth the salty liquorice comes through a bit more, with some rough-edged coffee notes, but still very mild. Smooth and very drinkable; the 10% alcohol warmth flows nicely around the mouth and down the throat as the bitterness fades. Nice; not a "rock star" Imperial Stout, perhaps even too smooth for a standard stout, but nice.

Bottle from Colonial Spirits.
Pours a solid dark brown/black color with a decent sized creamy off white head that persists forever. Smells of chocolate and caramel with a light roastiness and a hint of vanilla. Dark pitted fruits and a bit of grape skin round out the nose. This smells more like a sweet or a milk stout than an imperial. The flavor is lots of caramel and chocolate maltiness with bits of vanilla and pitted fruits. There is a vinous component and a hint of wood and alcohol as this warms. Medium to thick body with a light to moderate level of carbonation and a creamy smooth mouthfeel. Not exactly what I was thinking of when I bought this but it was a nice sipper just the same.

I had this at the HEB Central Market place, thought about it for a bit. Then saw it later that day at a SPEC’s and had to have it. Dark, coffee color. Espresso notes. Laces your glass quite well. Full-bodied. Sweet but has a bite at the tail end. Smooth, hazy after taste. Thick and rich. As far as Imperial Stouts, this one is good! Great brew for a cold night. My only issue is that the bottle needs to be a little bigger, bomber size would work.

Dark and inviting with a moderate tan head. Lighter aroma than expected. Taste is oaky with dark fruit and roasted coffee. Thin for an Imperial Stout.

Had on tap at Max's in Baltimore. Pours opaque. Aroma is faint but slight roast. Flavor is very winey. Yuck. Why put an IS in wine barrels. Not pleasant. Not to style and just not enjoyable. Alcohol is very up front. Finishes thin and very dry.

Draft to taster. Looks good; a semi-opaque very dark cola. Smells solid; dark malt, oak, pinot noir, and roast. Tastes like it smells with a pleasant mouthfeel. Good beer.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Jet black pour with a tan head. Big oak aromas upfront with roasted malt, pinot noir, and coffee notes. Flavor is all about the barrel. Lots of oak character with wine and tannin notes coming through all backed by the big roasty stout character. So complex! This was very well done. An awesome example of the style and what good barrel-aging can do to a beer.

Oak, oak and more oak, love it. Some nice pinot noir tannins and fruit coming through on the back of a deliciously strong stout. I suspect there was a deliberate decent bit of leftover pinot noir in the barrels used for ageing. Good winter warmer or late summer evening wind down. Great beer as is but.. add some manuka smokiness, more smoothness with a bit extra hoppy complexity to the stout backbone and a this could be a world beater. Thanks Moa.

Pours a rusty black with a chocolate beige lacy head. The nose is red wine, currant, and craisins. The pallet is dark chocolate, astringent over steeped tea, a little smoke and finishes with a oaky bitter sweet chocolate. Overall a very complex and enjoyable beer.
