Tasting Notes
Moa Imperial Stout is a very strong, bold upfront and rich offering of a famous beer style. Aged in Pinot Noir barrels, this beer not only displays coffee and mocha charters but also some sweet and spicy notes. A tannin like finish and an oak induced mellow bitterness makes it a serious stout. Moa Imperial Stout is best served just below room temperature in a tulip glass.

375ml, caged and corked bottle. Poured a black color with a huge sized off white head. Aromas of roast, some earthy woodiness, chocolate, and some smoke. Tastes of some grapes / pinot, chocolate, earth, roast, and wood. Some alcohol in the finish, but I found it to be well hidden.

Alcohol smell from the get go, woody, the coffee, chocolate smell is very light, very dark appearance but not super black, that wood smell tastes just as good, bitter coffee after taste is left on the plate, I do also taste some fruit as well raisin or plum, you get that warming feeling as it goes down. This one would be a great one to age.

375 ml bottle into snifter, best before 10/4/2014. Pours pitch black color with a 2 finger dense and fluffy khaki head with incredible retention, that reduces to a thick cap that lasts. Dense soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a ton of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Extremely carbonated, signs are pointing toward infection. Aromas of dark chocolate, apple, pear, cocoa, roasted malt, char, coffee, toast, raisin, red wine, oak, floral, an roasted earthiness. Ok aromas that are pleasant and balanced with roasted, fruity, and barrel notes; but are quite muted. Taste of dark chocolate, roasted malt, cocoa, coffee, char, apple, raisin, oak, pepper, floral, red wine, and roasted earthiness. Lingering notes of dark chocolate, roasted malt, light char, cocoa, coffee, oak, red wine, floral, and roasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Solid balance and complexity of roasted flavors with moderate fruitiness and barrel presence; and no cloying flavors after the finish. Flavor robustness is muted due to the carbonation. High carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a fairly creamy, chalky, and prickly mouthfeel that is ok. Alcohol is well hidden with only a small warming noticed after the finish. Overall, for being infected, this was an alright wine barrel aged stout. Pleasant balance of flavors; and pretty smooth to sip on even with the carbonation. Nothing offensive; I would like to try this without infection sometime.

Nice beer to sip in front of a fire. I don’t have a fire, so the heater had to do. It took me a little while to warm to this as I found the mouthfeel a little thin and the alcohol a bit rough at first. After a while it became a bit more chalky and dry, which balanced the thin acidity.

Black brew with a tan head. Strong aromas of dark coffee and something sour. Tastes of earthy notes, roasted/toasted grains, and dark coffee. There are also hints of dark chocolate. These typical dark beer flavors mix with some sour/tart hints of dark fruit. Bitter chocolate finish. Good brew and quite powerful on the palate.

Pours pitch black with a khaki head that leaves tons of lacing and dissipates slowly. Aromas consist of chocolate, coffee, dates, and licorice. Bitter at the front of the palate, sweet at the back. Awesome brew.

Aroma: Rich caramel and toasted cereals, sweet notes. Appearance: Very thin creamy head, almost black-red clear liquid. Taste: Rich flavours, unexpected sweetness, very light alcoholic warmth. Burnt caramel, light nut and coffee. Palate: Light alcoholic warmth in the mouth, very smooth and long bitter finish. Mild carbonation. Overall: Very rich flavours and aromas, unexpectedly sweet. Alcohol is very well concealed, nice drink.

Great smell from the barrel ageing. Not my preferable head for this style, but does have a surprising amount of lacing from the off milk like head. Taste contains slight dryness and roasty ness. Provides classic bitter coffee tastes and a nice lingering bitterness but does lack that full rich palate that great imperial stouts provide. But overall solid brew from a even more solid brewer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a deep black and smells slightly sweet. Taste has both roasted flavors as well as the pinot wine. The roasted flavor fades away and you are left with sweet wine taste. This is a pretty good beer.
