COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Originally a special brew for the West Coast IPA challenge (which it won in 2011 under the name ‘Moa McMoa’). Unique dry hopping occurs in the fermenter/conditioning tank as opposed to the kettle. A variety of hops are added throughout; at the beginning of the boil for bittering and late for dryness. This technique produces a well-balanced Double IPA.

Bottle from Dan Murphy’s (November 2014). Clear copper colour, fine tan head, bubblegum, toffee, grapefruit/pine hops, preserved oranges, subtle banana, slick, syrupy texture, resinous bitter finish. Nice.

Orange pour with very little head, very little carbonation. Fruity, banana, tropical fruits, piney aromas. A little sweet, grapefruit, pine and toffee - tastes great. Fairly bitter, dry finish..pretty good

500 ML bottle Orange amber color, half finger off white head. Pretty thick head and good retention. Some spotty and strips of lacing. Nose is bubblegum, candied citrus, and candied pine. Not an overwhelming nose but pretty well balanced nose that is a tad more Belgian as the yeast does stand out more. Taste is very Belgian. Candied orange, candied tropical fruits, and I want to say candied caramel. Medium bodied, slick and oily in the front, dried candied orange and tropical fruits in the back. Some candied orange peel bitterness to mix into this as well. Does get more bitter as this gets more rolling. Solid, solid DIPA and a solid Belgian style DIPA. First Moa I like.

Lagerboy (1321) - British Columbia, CANADA - OCT 23, 2014
Corked and caged 750 ml bottle, wee gusher. Opaque brownish orange, smaller chunks, lasting big tan foam eventually settles. Surprisingly muted mellow malty, fruity hop aroma. Bitter herbal yeasty taste quickly softens, fruity citrus hop, sweet caramel malts, slightly floral, evergreen, some heat, dry. Good balance. Well carbonated, medium-full bodied, more aggressively hopped. DNFL (Definitely Not For Lagerboys)

Bottle from BWS Milton 101014. Certainly looks the goods with a vibrant amber colour, looks well carbonated. Good mix of hops, malt and fruitiness in the aroma. Finish is bitter and resinous. Not a beer to be rushed.

Nice dark amber colour, almost red, with small head. Aromas of banana and spices from the belgian yeast, pine, paw paw/papaya, some caramel. Taste is toffee sweetness, grapefruit, grassy, multigrain toast, maybe some mango. Medium bodied and hides the 9.1% ABV very well. Really good beer, with nice balance between sweetness, bitterness and dryness.

Pours dark amber with a fine white head. Nose is grapefruit, bread dough, clove, hint of banana, bit of pineapple. Wow. Pretty impressed by this. The belgian clove and esters are impeccably well balanced with the hop flavors. The clove and banana are there from the belgian yeast, but so are the grapefruit, slightly winey vinous not and a hint of tropical fruit. But they’re so perfectly melded in the mid and late palate that it isn’t the usual "here’s the IPA" and then "here’s the belgian influence" type flavor profile that you usually get with combination styles like this. None of Moa’s other beers have really impressed me, and I was on the verge of giving up on them. But this has really impressed me. A little caramel sweetness in there, and the 9.1% is hidden incredibly well. Exceptional.

BB 23.5.15. Poured a translucent bronzed amber with a two-finger off-white frothy head that retained extremely well and laced well. Carbonation medium and coarse. Aroma strongly of tropical fruits, pine, a hint of yeast and subtle alcohol. Taste of mild tropical fruit followed by sweet malts, followed by a quite nice hops bitterness. Medium body. Lingering bitterness and alcohol on the finish. Quite bitter - but nice bitterness - overall. Quite nice!

Bottle. Amber with an off-white head that fades to a good coat. Aroma of lime, oranges, dough, pine, grapey herbal notes. Sweet but not lush, strongish bitterness straight away sharpening as it dries out quite a lot. Oily citrus flavours - lime, grapefruit, bitter oranges. Herbal and a bit woody at the bitter finish. Interesting in that it’s a very tightly focussed sort of a beer; would have liked something a little more broadly engaging at this strength. But it’s good what it’s trying to do.
