Poured a slightly hazed light yellow color and a white head. The aroma is malty and lightly sweet. The flavor is sweeter, malty and had a light bitter finish.

Thanks to daijokey for bringing this to JoeMcphee’s place for CaptainCougar come to NY gathering. 375ml bottle. Pale yellow, slightly murky pour. Aroma is aged sweet biscuit maltiness with citrus highlights (good amount of lemon). Taste is sweet (light honey) with faint citrus. Ligfht bodied with medium carbonation, very quaffable yet full of flavor. This is not fresh but it has aged nicely. Brisk, light, and sweet. Bottled conditioned lager, nice, oh and my first rated NZ brew, super nice, thanks Wayne.

Thanks to daijokey for bringing this to Joe’s place - hazy golden beer - honey-sweet aroma, with wildflower and lavender notes, a hint of european hops - flavor is more dry than the aroma suggests, with a light mineral quality - soft carbonation gives a creamy mouthfeel - light flowery notes, with some pils malt flavor and a faint hop bite on the tail end - light and refreshing.

Bottle. Having had a bottle that seemed to have been spoilt at the Sydney Gathering, i bought another one to try. This was quite nice. Smooth, with an almost creamy mouthfeel, with spritzy carbonation. Some kiwi fruit and passionfruit. NIce clean, crisp mouthfeel. Tasty stuff.

bb10/08. poured into a 25cl stemmed bitburger glass which i’ve always thought is as close to a champagne flute as beerglasses get - and here is the perfect beer for it, a methode champenoise pilsener. with fruity hops. owing to the disgorging (?) there was fresh yeast sediment all over the inside of the cap of this bottle. keeps a much better head than the blanc, a big fluffy light snowcover. slight haze. familiar nz saaz/cascade/hallertau? fruitiness in aroma - passionfruit, vanilla, grapefruit, with some musty doughy champagne yeast. same crackery malt and tangy hops as emersons pilsener, but with the bitterness in the finish replaced by carbonation zing - extremely light body but a fluffy artificial body is supplied by the CO2. some malt lingers with some high AA hop resin. a unique and intriguing drink. sort of like a tripel with the alcohol removed. would love to try something like this with all czech saaz or flowery rather than fruity hops.

UPDATED: APR 3, 2007 NZ’s most expensive beer at ~$13 for a 750ml? Massive snow white head that settles very quickly. Slightly cloudy. Aromatic nose, some malt sweetness, but mainly hops. Thick, resin like. Very complete palate – balanced, good levels of hop driven sweetness that combines well with herbal, pasionfruit, kiwi sab blanc like notes. Kinda like the Knappstein but not as fruit driven. Weird in a way but nice at the same time. Again has a thick feeling to the palate. Pretty good but didn’t blow me away.

Bottle: Finally a chance to try this thanks to Liquor on Parade. Nice, non-standard bottle with a tirage crown. Sadly it is green, albeit of a darker shade, so I hope they don’t suffer any skunking problems... Cloudy light gold beneath an almighty white head that looks positively impenetrable. Even while looking at the glass I could smell some inviting hop notes emerging; beautiful floral and grassy hops (my notes say a paddock with lillies) with a touch of orange and a lovely bready grain base - mouth watering! In the mouth lots of orange-honeyed grains show up front with an assertive and lingering woody and faintly resiny hop flavour and bitterness. Despite the titanic head the carbonation was restrained to a gentle tickling. Very, very nice.

This is the shit as far as I am concerned. Co-drinkers were criticizing because its more like a Belgian beer or something. I dont care, this stuff is great. I got first pour and the head was by far the biggest head I have ever seen on a beer. Filled the glass 95% head, 5% beer. Highly, highly carbonated. Cloudy golden color, slight whiff of halttertau hops. Very aromatic fruity mouth. Moderately bitter, but great depth. Some where between Czech and Belgium, but not Germany. Figure that out!

The bloke I tasted this beer with said that this wasn’t one of the better New Zealand lagers he’d ever tasted and was stunned when I slapped him for saying it. This beer was a real treat (partially because of the expense) because New Zealand lagers never taste dry enough to my palate. Emersons pilsner may be highly regarded by the community, but this drop deserves accolades.

Slightly cloudy golden orange with a large and lasting frothy head that left a lot of lacing as it dropped. Smells strongly of passionfruit, a bit reminiscent of pasito soft drink. Creamy notes too, which is more evident in the mouth. A little on the fizzy side. Lots of fruit on tasting, sort of like Scharer’s lager, giving it a tropical fruit cocktail flavour. Well balance with some finishing bitterness that lingers nicely. Very good, but a touch on the gassy side.
