COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Moa Brewing Company was established in 2003 by Josh Scott with a focus on brewing premium, boutique beers to an ever discerning beer market. Moa’s key point of difference is in its brewing technique. Bottled fermented and conditioned to give a natural, more consistent carbonation and flavour. The beer is left to lie on it’s lees until deemed ready to be ’disgorged’, a process that involves removing most of the lees from the bottle resulting in a clean, bright beer, right to the very last drop. Hence Methode Traditionelle. Most enjoyable with food or chilled on it’s own.

The aroma is very malty with hay like hops. The appearance is golden with an average head for the style. The taste is bitter and like the aroma. The palate is average. Overall not really bad but not good either.

750 ml. corked and caged bottle. Pours a fluffy lasting white head, with extensive lacing....over a slightly hazy (initially), golden (SRM 5) body...nose is light cereal, light spice.....taste is light sweet cereal to start, finishing with a mild spiced bitterness....mouth feel is medium, carbonation low. This is a low hop bitterness, not particularly spicy, Pilsner. Additionally, it is very obviously bottle conditioned as the crud rapidly increased as the bottle was emptied. It is not a crisp as the best in this style, and at least in this bottle drifts toward the Belgian Golden Ale type, what with all the autolysis going on. BJCP 7/3/11/4/6

This is definately a beer of two halves - young it is a really clean, fresh Pilsner with zesty grapefruit aromatics and long, bitterness that can be a tad astringent. With age it mellows to a rich, creamy beer with toasty autolisis notes.

It’s a little sweet and a little dark for my lager preference. I enjoyed it, but unlike most lagers it was more of a sipping beer for me. I do enjoy the sweetness although there is a bit of an aftertaste I’m not that fond of.
