Once the hard to remove cork was extracted, this was poured from the ~25 oz bottle into a pint glass. A very dark brown color with a towering, long-lasting head. Plenty of sticky lacing. Has a rather sour aroma of malt with some spiciness. Flavorful, with a generous, but not extreme, load of medium and dark malt. There’s some chocolate, a hint of coffee and a touch of hops, but little of the sourness present in the aroma. A good amount of carbonation. Medium/full bodied with a very smooth finish.

330ml bottle, pours dark caramel black. Very little earthy head. Smells sweet coffee malts. Nice malt raisins coming through with caramel.

375 ml bottle purchased at the Westmere Beverage Center (Albany, New York) on September 18, 2012. Very dark brown, medium head. Aroma of dry barley, cracked wheat, very fragrant. The taste is somewhat similar, but more raw, hints of smoked herbs, barley bitter. Like the other Moa, it is very good, I’d like it to have more Kiwi beer!

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pint. Dark cola-coloured body was topped by a substantial tan head that mostly dissipated. Chocolate was the predominant flavour on the nose, and that carried through in the taste, although some black coffee and roasted malts also came through. Body was light and well carbonated. Easy drinking dark lager with more complexity than I was expecting.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
The feel is thin with fizzy carbonation; finishes with a roasted bitterness. An easy drinking lager, with a light feel yet some nice flavor.

12 oz bottle. Pours dark red-brown with a long lasting tanned head and nice lacing. Aroma is of funky yeast, bready, toasted malt and hint of hops. Body is medium and smooth. Taste is of toasted malt, toffee and earthy hops. Finish is long, slightly astringent and bitter. Good beer to try once.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Dark murky brown with a little bit of a ruby highlight, under a foamy light khaki head. Aroma had a stronger note of biscuit than I expected, but also had a light touch of cold toddie coffee with a light chocolaty graininess. Flavor was nicely subtle but still nuanced and well rounded. Smooth dark earthy toffee mixed with some biscuity yeastiness and some toast, with just a hint of earthy grainy chocolate sweetness. Overall kinda drier than I hoped, but this is a nice lager experience.

4.6 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Rich dark color. Coffee and chocolate nose. Very elegant on the pallet, not a heavy tasting or saturated dark.
