4.6 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20 walkingstd (20) - - MAR 4, 2012
Rich dark color. Coffee and chocolate nose. Very elegant on the pallet, not a heavy tasting or saturated dark.

Bottle from Plonk, Canberra. Very tasty, malt-driven lager. Aromas of caramel, grain, and chocolate. Taste is sweet, with light bitterness, and good length. Palate is silky, and medium bodied. Black, with a frothy head.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 astrofrk (314) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - SEP 7, 2009
Brown. Lasting, foamy head. Aroma: Roasted malt, caramel, candy. Flavor: Pretty much the same with earthy hops showing up just before swallowing. Mild, bitter finish. There is almost a coffee flavor in this finish, I toast the complexity of this beer.
Personally, I think this beer deserves a higher rating than many give. I guess it’s all a matter of personal taste and that is what this website is about.
3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 jimhilt (2166) - Bow, New Hampshire, USA - SEP 10, 2010
Pours a two finger off-white head that fades slowly to a ring leaving some lace. Medium carbonation and medium bodied. Opaque brown color. Nose is slight malt. Flavor is caramel and baked molasses. Smooth, surprisingly good being in a green bottle. $4.25 for a 375ml bottle from Colonial Spirits, Acton, MA.

Bottled. Blackish pour, lightly filtered. Peanuty, roasty, clean aroma, bright. Gooey, nutty, rich in the mouth, very easy drinking. Earthy and mushroomy. This is a pretty solid beer here. Should probably go under schwarz as well.

Bottle. Caramel brown pour with beige head. Aroma is some nutty malt, bread, and very light belgian-like fruit sweetness. Flavor is the same, sweet caramel and fruit malt base; complex but subtle and light roasted finish.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 notalush (3751) - Denver, Colorado, USA - DEC 14, 2008
Pours a dark ruby - the aroma is doughy, nutty, with a slight earthy must, fruitiness and vegetal character - full but soft carbonation in the mouth - almost like a brown ale in flavor, with strong nutty flavor, moderate herbal bitterness - a little chalky and dry on the back end - slight hints of cocoa and bread at the end as well - earthy - an interesting and underrated beer.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 maneliquor (1193) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - AUG 3, 2011
Bottle in NZ. First beer on the trip and very happy. Typical dark lager. Sessionable and roasty. Nice beer
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 bhensonb (7598) - Woodland, California, USA - OCT 10, 2007
Bottle from Bottle Barn. Aroma of rich dark roasted malt that is not burnt, and is somewhat chocolatey. The color is deep ruby, if viewed under very strong light; otherwise nearly opaque. The white head collapsed rapidly. Medium bodied with full and creamy carbonation - no bite. The flavor is mellow dark roast malt with dark chocolate aspects. A very slight touch of underlying sour. The finish is not sweet; the malt continues; some bitter pops up for balance. The whole thing is a bit earthy, like fresh mushrooms, but that’s just the backdrop for really great flavor. At US $30+ for a six pack it’s not likely to be an everyday quaff, but I am glad to have been able to enjoy it. Perhaps as close to stout as a lager is likely to get.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 JorisPPattyn (6747) - Antwerpen, BELGIUM - JAN 13, 2008
Slight haze, ruby-brown beer, beautiful; very good yellow-cream head, stable. Roasted, near roasted coffee beans aroma, just a touch earthy. Good! Coffee, coffee cream. Like a light coffee stout, when bottom-fermented of course. Light, but not at all empty; slick, creamy even. Nice! Very good light, stout-like beer. More and more Baltic porter are top-fermented, here’s a beer tasting like a stout for all the world, bottom-fermented. Great find, Stef!
