With a wheat beer base, Moa Sour Blanc is a throwback to how the very first beers were produced. Fermented and aged in oak barrels using natural wild yeast and selected bacterium, this beer carefully balances phenolic and complex acidity with dryness and funk. A sour beer in the traditional Belgian Lambic style with a complexity best described as a riot of flavours.

Bright yellow with a good finger of active, bright white head, plenty of carbonation and some turbidity. The aroma was quite pronounced: sour lemon all over. It is perfumy and enticing and the flavour is similarly strong. It was clean, sour and refreshing and I drifted off to sleep a happy man.

Bottle. Pale straw gold with a white head thatís soon gone. Damp wheaty aroma with old lemons, lime, apricot stones. Husky and grainy sweetness, some nectarines, lime, mouldering lemons, mellow apples, hint of hard spice. Moderate sourness, damp laundry funk. No bitterness. The minerally feel that works well in some other Moa beers doesnít work so well here and maybe thereís a little too much sweetness, but this is pretty good and not entirely unlike a gueuze.

2013 bottle poured murky yellow with a fast fading bubbly head the aroma is mild yet full of citrus fruit herbs & yeast this is like cider with a predictably sour lemon tarty taste with wheat & spicy flavours coming thru & sort of creamy with a dry finish

2013 vintage. Two sours in one night and in comparison this is less sour but more funky on the palate. Quite dry on the finish.

This is closer to a cider than a beer, its almost as if someone took a farmhouse ale and dropped a whole lemon into the glass. Look, I want to love it, farmhouse sours are a new thing to me and I've been all about them. But this is just unbalanced, and in all honesty, a bit lacklustre. Maybe another vintage?

Really enjoyed this as one of the first sours Iíve tried. Aroma is like green apple with some "funk", maybe from the oak. Taste is complex, sour, similar to a homebrew cider in some ways with a wheat base. Light bodied with moderate carbonation.
