COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Moa St Josephs is a classic Belgian Tripel. Strong spice, caramel and banana ester characters create complex flavours and aromas which are heightened by its extended bottle conditioning period. The combination of bittering hops, malt and candy sugars compliment the high alcohol content and integrate into a very approachable and drinkable Tripel.

Tasting Notes
Moa St Josephs is a true abbey style tripel with strong clove and spice flavours apparent with a noticeable fruit ester profile. Smokey phenolic characters can be detected. The bitterness is designed to be complimentary rather than dominant. Moa St Josephs is a complex beer that has no added herbs or spices, and is best served at approximately 8˚C in a tulip glass.

Bottle. Dull golden body with a white head. Aromas of Belgian yeast, sweet grains, light fruit. Bready malt, spices, slight sweetness on the flavor. ABV very well hidden.

500ml bottle from Beer Station, Xiamen. Pours hazy golden with a thin white head. Aroma of Belgian yeast, bread and spice. Bittersweet finish. Getting better as it goes down but still lacks a little something.

I really like this beer! but let me start by admitting that I’m a huge fan of belgian yeasts, and Quad beers are my favourite, so this ticks alot of boxes for me but still it will need alot more work to be compared to chimay grand reserve, or the great la trappe quadrupel, but its an excellent start!! Colour is pale gold, belgian yeast aromas produce tropical esters, alot of toffee flavours, texture is excellent due to the ABV, but the alcohol is prominent, and it needs to be balanced with some bitterness, over all , an excellent new world beer.

Bottle. Pours a tan darker bronze color. Light head bubbles and fades away. Taste is bready and yeasty with a boozy after taste. Not bad

Pours a slightly hazy amber from a bottle, quickly dissipating white head. Slightly skunky aroma, otherwise rather fruity smelling. Big tropical fruit flavor, surprisingly but nicely hoppy Belgian tripel. Good beer.

Pours an orange amber with very little head. No lacing. Aroma is full of banana, spice and caramel. Very sweet with banana, spice caramel and light hops. Full body. Sticky texture. low carbonation. Dry finish. Average triple that is really sweet. Not a big fan.

Bottle. Deep, murky gold with a thin head around the edge. Delicious banana, caramel, clove, cinnamon, pepper and brown sugar aromas. Similar flavours with a large presence of alcohol, perhaps appropriate to style but not entirely integrated into the flavour of the beer, leaving it a little harsh. Rich, thick mouthfeel. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

500 ml bottle bought at YATA in MOKO, Mong Kok.

Looks: Translucent straw golden honey colour with a thin layer of yeast sediments; Less than one-quarter finger head and soapy white foam which fades in 30 seconds; Good sticky lacing with quite fizzy small carbonation.

Aroma: Fragrant and sweet malt, with strong banana, pineapples, vanilla, strong caramel, strong honey, sugar, alcohol, phenolic, light cloves, bread, strong Bel yeast and very light grass.

Taste: Medium to strong sweet malt, with strong alcohol, caramel, toffee, banana, traces of dark fruits, sugar, strong spices, strong Bel yeast, lime, strong bitter hops and strong grass.

Body: Mid to light. Slick and slightly creamy palate.

Mouth Feel: Fairly good maltyness in a pretty thin backgraound, quite watery to the tongue. Strong booze hit first, followed by subdued banana and some dark fruity esters. Sugary sweet but definitely not cloying. Strong spicyness and strong yeast. Good limey hops to round. Solid!

Alcohol: The 9.5% booze hits you in nose and tongue right from the start, but it never came across as harsh nor warming. It is in your face but understated unlike most strong Tripels or BSAs, so this is very very easy to down without significant knock ons. Excellent!

Hoppiness: Light grass in nose. Lime, spice, and strong grass in taste. Bitterness, mixed with liquorices is strong for a lasting, close to strong astringent sweet malty finish.

After Taste: Wet. Sweet, boozy and spicy to mouth.

Comments: Compare to other Belgian Tripels, this one preserves most of the style’s hoppy and boozy attributes, yet somehow it’s a bit too watery and there’s a flesh of empty feeling about it. Other than that, it’s fruity aroma, strong Bel yeast, well-made booze and spices are the highlights. I will like it more if it’s richer and in a smaller dose!

Bottle from Market Street Wine Shop downtown. Pop the cork - holy shit. I have never seen such pressure behind a cork. It hit the ceiling and disappeared somewhere. Hazy dark golden with lots of floaters and a large large large off-white head. Smells of banana, bubblegum, yeast out the ass, apple, rubbing alcohol. Taste is pleasant. Apple, pear, wheat, rubbing alcohol, dried apricot (the kind you get in plastic bags in the health food section), spices. This is pretty tasty.

Bottle share at Leighton’s. As ’Moa St Josephs’. Thanks to The Kernel for supplying this one. Hazy orange, still, small off-white head, dotted lacing. Aroma is varnish, apple, slightly sour fruits. Body is medium, smooth, soft carbonation. Taste has more varnish and apple, booze showing up, dry spicy finish. OK at best.

Bottle shared in London - big thanks to the Kernel RotBox. Pours clear copper with pretty much no head. Lots of rich, sugary bread and fruit in the nose, some apples, dough, yeast, wheat, dates. Medium to heavy sweet flavor with light alcohol bump, a little apple sauce, doughy wheat. Full bodied, lightly chewy, with soft carbonation. Lightly warming on the finish, sugary, bready, more wheat, some toffee. A heavy-hitting tripel. Not super drinkable, but not terrible.
