COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Moa St Josephs is a classic Belgian Tripel. Strong spice, caramel and banana ester characters create complex flavours and aromas which are heightened by its extended bottle conditioning period. The combination of bittering hops, malt and candy sugars compliment the high alcohol content and integrate into a very approachable and drinkable Tripel.

Tasting Notes
Moa St Josephs is a true abbey style tripel with strong clove and spice flavours apparent with a noticeable fruit ester profile. Smokey phenolic characters can be detected. The bitterness is designed to be complimentary rather than dominant. Moa St Josephs is a complex beer that has no added herbs or spices, and is best served at approximately 8˚C in a tulip glass.

3fourths (8497) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - AUG 6, 2012
UPDATED: AUG 12, 2012 bottle-conditioned 375ml. opaque golden amber body with a tall-building foamy off-white head; gorgeous appearance. lush nose of sweetened baked grains and buttered toast with neutral dish soap / floral esters, apples, and candy sugar with lighter touches of cracked peppercorns and barely a trace of ethanol. creamy and rich, high bodied and sweet but with ample hop bitterness and quaffable acid, especially up front. turns sweeter and chewier in the finish, which coats the mouth with browned banana esters and neutral ethanol and phenol spiciness. turns a bit too chewy and sweet and banana-dominant as it opens up, becoming more unidimensional, but the creamy body and mild pepper phenols are enjoyable enough to save it. very near authentic; give this to me blind and I might say it’s straight out of the low countries.

Hazy in appearance with yeast at bottom. Smells like bananas and bread. A strong taste of bananas up front and in after taste. Very little clove flavour. Bready with a slight sour dough taste. Little to no hop flavour. Nice mouth feel. Slight alcohol warmth. For $6.99 NZ for a 500ml bottle at 9.5% this is a very good deal!

Very disappointing. I guess I’m not the target market, being a hop-head, but this was barely drinkable. Sickly sweet and caramel flavours with dominant alcohol. Tasted like Lion Red spiked with a double shot of cheap vodka. Looked great, but that’s all.

Hazy golden with thin head. Floral , malty aroma with notes of grape, alcohol and bubblegum. Yeast , spices , fruits ... Looks like a good taste , but sweetness is overwhelming as for tripel.

Bottle into small tulip glass. Basic hop nose. Cloudy amber with lasting white head. Champagne carbonation. Smooth caramel taste. Finish is smoky/sour with alcohol notes. Raisins present. Not really my thing.

Pours cloudy orange-gold with small white that leaves nice lacing and skim. Aroma is tangy orange, wood, candy, spice. Taste follows with peppery clove notes bursting through the sweet fruit. There’s a bit of heat, but good brewing technique makes it seem organic from spices rather than a function of the alcohol. It’s a long way from Belgium, but this is a nice homage to the tripel style.

375mL bottle, pours a cloudy dirty orange with a small beige head. Nose brings out Belgian spices, Belgian yeast, and some light fruity esters. Flavour is on the sweeter side, with candied sugar, Belgian yeast, and smoky phenols. Not the most complex tripel, but certainly not bad. Decent.
