3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: AUG 12, 2012 bottle-conditioned 375ml. opaque golden amber body with a tall-building foamy off-white head; gorgeous appearance. lush nose of sweetened baked grains and buttered toast with neutral dish soap / floral esters, apples, and candy sugar with lighter touches of cracked peppercorns and barely a trace of ethanol. creamy and rich, high bodied and sweet but with ample hop bitterness and quaffable acid, especially up front. turns sweeter and chewier in the finish, which coats the mouth with browned banana esters and neutral ethanol and phenol spiciness. turns a bit too chewy and sweet and banana-dominant as it opens up, becoming more unidimensional, but the creamy body and mild pepper phenols are enjoyable enough to save it. very near authentic; give this to me blind and I might say it’s straight out of the low countries.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
One of the better Moa brews in my opinion. Nicely balanced and hides it’s strength well. Missing only a little of the complexity of the benchmark Belgians.

2.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
Poured a cloudy pale amber with a one- to two-finger white frothy head that retained for the whole drink but laced poorly. Carbonation very high with lots of medium sized bubbles forming trails. Despite being bottle conditioned there was little visible yeast particles. Aroma of cloves plus a trace of yeast. Taste very sweet malts, light spices (mostly cloves), a bit yeasty, and with a trace of alcohol coming through. Medium body Smooth with a nice bitter finish. Quite OK.

At cellar temperature and into a chalice. Sandy gold with fine carbonation and misted by the bottle conditioning. A short-lived fluff resides atop. Toffee, pale caramel, banana, vanilla icecream, predominant creaming soda and a touch of guava hit the nose; sweet and intriguing. Creamy mouthfeel. Warming, slightly plastic finish. Lots of that creaming soda comes through, a touch of vanillin and toffee brittle. Lemon zest and a little guava gives it a tang. Light, bounding malt profile; straw-like, dry and gritty which keeps it level. Yeasty and bready with a faint vinous note in the swallow. Fruity bitterness on the edge lingers. Over all a refreshing Tripel. Lacking in some regards but above many I have tried. (37,5cL, BB 04/10/15, Dan Murphy’s, Balcatta)
