COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Moa Ten Year Beer is a cherry lambic made in a uniquely traditional Belgium style. It is fermented as a tripel then poured into French oak puncheons with Marlborough cherries stuffed in the barrel. Wild yeast is added and it is left to slowly ferment and age over 10 months. The end product pours strawberry golden and has powerful aromas of cherries and dried herbs. The oak and cherries integrate over time and the base characters of banana and butterscotch are evident at the end of the palate. Moa Ten Year Beer is not as sour as traditional lambics and this complex style benefits from ten years of cellar aging.

Bottled, 75cl. Brought from NZ. The aroma is quite fruity, red fruits, dome citrus, wine. Hazy, yellow-oange coloured beer with a thin, white head. The taste is slightly sour, bit tart. Some malty sweetness, lots of fruits. Quite full, powerfull. High ABV quite well hidden. Good brew.

Bottle at the Martin T tasting, CBC, 06/0613 - big thanks to Brigadier Nathan for this rare bird. Murky dark amber with reddish hues. Nose is tarte cherry, sour berry fruits, musty wood, grandads shed. Taste comprises light cherry sours, touch of sugar, subtle balsams, funk, oaky wood. Medium bodied with bite, tarte fruity finish, light booze. A decent sour, the booze is expertly hidden.

Bottle at ratebeer tasting at CBC. Pours red-brown with a small off white head. Nose is light funk, big tarty cherries and some wood. Taste shows light tart and cherries, slightly wood and bready. Quite one dimensional and very easy going. Not bad

Bottle shared at CBC Clerkenwell - London. Thanks to Nathan, I believe. Pours cloudy, dark gold with a fine, white cream head. Jammy berry nose, some sweat. Medium sweet flavor, further sweaty and tangy berries. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Sweet finish with more jammy fruits, moderate tang, sweat, light vinegar, berry fruits. A decent sour overall.

Bottle. [thanks skortila]
Pours murky dark yellow with a small, creamy, white film head. Aroma has good raspberry, light vinious, caramel. Some sweetness behind the tartness. Medium carbonation, fat and creamy mouthfeel. Flavour is elegant, some caramel sweetness, cherries, quite harsh and warming. A bit brash.

Looks for all money like a lush glass of Rose Champagne. No head at all, but a persistent bead of carbonation. Aromas of cherry fruit rather than cherry brandy-like stones. An almost fraise-like nose that isn’t sickly sweet, but well balanced, perhaps a little bit herbal. It’s a bit of an odd one to taste. There’s a dessert like strawberry mousse sweetness - fluffy and airy and then a crash when the oak and cherries hit the palate like a piano falling out of the sky. That cascade isn’t sweet but devilishly astringent and a riot of tastes and flavours. The barrel aging is readily apparent and my pick is that it is going to mellow in time. I’m going to know because I have a bottle of this beer laid down for aging courtesy of my friend and offside Stu. The finish lingers and lasts and the only comparable ale in this direction would be the Twisted Hop Enigma barley wine that was aged in a Pinot Noir Barrel. I think this beer has enormous potential and look to see that my rating will only improve with time.
