Can thanks to my buddy Chadwell! Light brown pour, minimal carbonation and a nice toasty nut aroma. Flavor is light chocolate, biscuit, lightly roasted nuts and finished a little malts. Not a huge fan of brown ales, but this works!

A very fine brown ale with rich nutty tones and a really good sweet maltiness. Faint malted milk notes. Pours medium brown with a frothy head. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Growler. Pours a clear deep amber color with a thick head. Aroma is of chocolate malts, a little roastiness, oatmeal, and molasses. Flavor is of roasted chocolate, malts, grain, and a little coffee. Leaves a roasted chocolate malt finish. Not too bad.

Pours a clear red orange brown color with a decent sized bubbly tan head that slowly dissipates to a ring on top. Smells like a brown ale. Lots of caramel and toffee with hints of butterscotch, chocolate, and earth. The flavor is sweet with malts, lots of brown sugar and caramel with a slight bit of spice and earth. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation ans a sweet lightly syrupy mouthfeel. This is a nice brown ale. Solid tasty simple brew.

Pours deep mahogany into a Sam glass. Mocha micro head with good retention recedes leaving no lacing. Sweet milk chocolate and caramel aromas. Soft with dark caramel and chocolate milk front to back. Dry chocolate finish. Not bad.

From the can it pours brown with ruby red highlights and a moderate, short-lasting head. The aroma is vibrant with rich malts, yeast, nuttiness, and maybe even a little cinnamon or hazelnut. The body is about medium. This has a marvelous taste of malts and yeast with the hops played down. Not overly bitter and not astringent in anyway. This is a prime brown ale.

UPDATED: JUN 7, 2011 Rich malt in the aroma. Taste is like a bread or biscuit. Warm toast, with a light non biter hop. If I make it back to Moat, I will order this again. A nice brown, nothing high end but drinkable.

Rich malt in the aroma. Taste is like a bread or biscuit. Reminds me of a brown and serve dinner roll. Went down smooth with high drinkability. Would order more pints if I had the time.

Included as part of a sampler. I find Moat offerings to be just average but I seem to keep coming back for more. Another visit, another sampler. Still so so but fresh beer is always good so I’m sure I’ll be back again.

Draught at the brewpub. Pours copper with a thin tan head. Smells and tastes earthy with a peppery bite. Hoppy as far as brown ales go.
