MartinT (4316), Montreal, Quebec, Canada May 20, 2008 My Bottom Line:
Spicy Saaz overshadows most of the crisp malt’s flavor contribution in this clean and decidedly North American version of the Bohemian Pilsener style.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sheet of foam covers the clear pale gold.
-The chosen maltiness is not authentically Bohemian, yet remains lean and crisp.
-The finishing hop bitterness lingers nicely, but the overall Saaz presence is a tad dusty. Tired hop pellets?
-It’s nice to see a North American brewpub not afraid to use as much Saaz, so kudos to them for trying this out!
On tap at the brewpub.
beerbuzzmontreal (2700), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Jun 23, 2008 Clear golden pour with a thin white head. Interesting aroma of saaz hops and pilsner malt. The flavor isn’t as interesting as the aroma, it feels like a boring lager with some saaz, but even the saaz felt boring, it’s not much like a true pilsener. The body is light with a creamy texture and genlte carbonation. hophead75 (1661), Boonton, New Jersey, USA Dec 3, 2007 on tap at the brewpub. Clear golden in color with a medium to large white head. Aroma is spicy, and floral noble hops as well as some grain, light malty notes. Taste is lightly grainy (but not overly so) balanced nicely with some grassy and floral noble hops. Dry, crisp, and clean, just like a pils should be. Well done. (Rating #1125)
