9.% a.b.v. our version of this classic export ale. Unlike most brewers we add a special decoction cycle to our brew day to increase the malty backbone to this once a year specialty. A generous amount of bittering hops balances well with the high roast, chocolate and black malt flavor. Viscosity is high and flavors improve as the ale warms in temperature

Bottle. Nice aroma of chocolate malt. The flavor is of burned malt. A slight hint of alcohol. Ok, but not great.

Pours black with a thin beige head that dissipates quickly leaving a ring of foam. Nose is boozy malts with notes of dark chocolate and licorice. A hint of vanilla. Taste is balanced: rich malts with a moderate hop bite. Medium body, lively carbonation. Decent brew.

Wonderful coffee aroma with maybe some fig. Does not smell too roasty but nice and smooth. Smooth drinking beer. Lighter in body than some big stouts but it hides the alcohol well. Decent head retention. Nice beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

All these imp stouts look the same. This one smells boozier than others. Some coffee and some boozy flavors. Good stout. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a mostly opaque dark mahogany with a spotty-lacing beige head. Has a lightly sweet dark caramel and chocolate malty nose with a touch of dark fruits. Starts with average fullness and effervescent carbonation with a mild dark caramel and chocolate flavor before a drier, roasty bittersweet finish. Could use a little more body and complexity, but is still a decent imperial stout.

2011 Vintage, bottle # 375, brew #1162, 22 oz bomber into a tulip glass. Opens with a huge fizz and an instant gush over. Yay, an infection. Normally I don’t review infected beers but since a store had the audacity to mark this beer up and put a fancy "2011 Vintage" post-it note on the bottle....what the hell. Pours a pitch black body with gobs of stereotypical infected foam. Massive initially before fizzing away coca-cola style. Aroma is of char, lightly soured malts, and a dash of chocolate. It honestly doesn’t smell like much though. Taste is similar with light chocolate and char before going into a harsh lactic acid/cherry juice burn. Besides the sour flavor this is mostly devoid of flavor. It’s almost as if the stout base nearly cancels out the infection leaving behind something so neutral and boring that the only reason for a drain pour would be for fear of the empty calories. Regardless I muscled on and finished this beer. I was really hoping for a decent aged stout and was left wondering how a store got $14 from me so easily. Bottle variation, improper storage, or a haphazard hand bottling incident; either way this seems like one to drink fresh.

Bottle shared by Dosbeerigos I believe, or Brewkkake, not sure but thanks! Served close to room temp this one really had a good bit of chocolate going on. Creamy texture and a very silky taste. Pretty good.

On tap at Moat Mountain Smokehouse & Brewing in North Conway, NH. Opaque black-brown with brown head and very good lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, nuts, toffee, caramel and molasses. Taste of roasted malt, toffee, chocolate and molasses. Medium body and high/medium carbonation. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle # 460 Batch # 1395 Sat on this one for a few years thought today be a good time to drink it. Still well carbonated great chocolate aromas’ and a slight coffee note in there as well. Flavor comes off as a sweet mocha flavored drink. A good sipper I’d age this one again, if I could track down the brewer
