Smokehouse Porter. Pours mahogany-tinged black into a Sam glass. Mocha pancake batter head with medium retention recedes leaving spotted sheets. Dark caramel, toasted pumpernickel and roasted Brazil nuts. Thin upfront with caramel and toast turning spritzy in the middle with a lasting roasted nut finish. Could use a little more smoke and body.

UPDATED: JAN 6, 2011 I actually found this to be the best of the offerings from my 7 beer sampler. The beer at Moat is nothing to rave about but still it is freshly brewed craft beer which beats what most other restaurants have to offer. I thought they actually did a pretty good job with their porter which is a style I am often dissapointed with at other brewpubs. This could be partly attributed to the fact that I was so underwhelmed by their other styles. 1/6/11 - Update: This time around I found the porter to be one of my least favorites of a sampler. Go figure.
