Modelo Especial, a pilsener type beer, was introduced to the market in 1966. Today it is sold in glass bottles as well as cans, which are having an increasing demand due to consumer preferences, making Modelo Especial the leader in the can segment in Mexico.

A little darker gold than Corona (the universal Mexican beer meter-stick), with a faint grassy aroma and a fuller mouthfeel. Not bad-- best enjoyed while in Mexico.

Twas surprised by this one, honestly... in a decent way. (From the can) Pours deep golden into the glass with a diminishing head, small lacing to the glass. For the first aroma of the night, it honestly had a grapey, cabernet nose to it... almost dead on. This is where good went to decent. The flavor still is still a bit blander than I wanted, with slight notes of pale malt, a quick smitten of corn, and just a hint of bitterness to round out the pull. But for such lackluster, it did have a decent mouthfeel, better than I anticipated. It cleansed the palate well enough, without necessarily feeling watery. Definitely not a lot of complexity going on in this one, but it’s certainly better than most of its cultural counterparts.

basically a Mexican beer on steroids. Still pours a light straw color with a weak head, but has more flavor than the regular mexican swills. You MUST drink this with a lime.

12 ounce bottle served up with a pint glass at Sangria’s Mexican Restaurant in Tucker, GA. This was a medium gold in color and had very little carbonation and left no lacing. It had a fruity taste and no aroma that I could detect.

UPDATED: FEB 24, 2011 Bottle. I feared the worst with this one, but it wasn’t as bad as I expected. Definitely in the low end of swill, but still drinkable. The two Mexican beers that are somewhat decent are the Negra Modelo and the Dos Equis Amber. All the rest are shithouse, including this one. Perhaps its better in the can, as other raters indicate. Went down easy enough, and would be a welcome thirst quencher on a hot day. . . . . . 2/24/2011. . picked up a 12-pack of cans for $10 at Sam’s Club. I never thought I would see anything except Bud Light and Miller Lite in Sam’s.. Not bad for Mexican swill. Easy drinking on a warm spring day. I could see slamming a few of these after mowing the lawn this summer.

12oz bottle. Pours a bright gold color with a brilliant white fluffy head. Nose is light corn, syrup and honey, grass, overall freshness. Palate is very carbonated and tingly. Note of corn and grass, some light sweetness and a finish of crispness and light bitterness.

(can in Cabo & Manzanillo) Just as lame as any other light Mexican pils. Taste almost like Corona but a tad smoother. Has very little malt flavor or aroma. You can tell corn was used in the mash. No hop flavor as usual. Adding a lime wedge wouldn’t hurt. If Mexican beer had no alcohol, nobody would drink it. Stick to Dos Equis Amber when in Mexico (if you can find it).

UPDATED: MAR 3, 2007 Mexican beer, as all reviewers know, is a mostly a pale pilsener-lager hybrid. Most are awful and tasteless. This is next to Pacifico as far as drinkability and enjoyability. Premium and pleasant. Out of the bottle is radically different from the can. Stick to the can.

This beer has a very foul smell out of the bottle. Very watered down light beer, has a bit of a funky aftertaste. The negro is much better.
