Black House is an oatmeal coffee stout bursting with coffee aroma and flavor. Modern Times is one of the only breweries in the world to roast our own coffee, which allows us to be exceptionally picky about which coffees we use and how we roast them. The result is an abundantly flavorful beer thatís incredibly complex and aromatic, with loads of roast character and a chocolate-covered espresso bean finish. But Black House packs all that flavor into a reasonable package: at only 5.8% ABV, it can comfortably be consumed by the pint.

16 oz. can from tleaver33. Pours brown black with a thin tight khaki head that leaves a thin film and collar. Aroma has nice coffee and roasted malt some chocolate. Taste is big coffee and bitterness with subtle chocolate roasted malt and more black coffee with light cream. Palate is thin to medium with a burnt dry finish. Pretty tasty!

Really nice roasted coffee bean and chocolate aromas. I have to remind myself that this is a 5.8 % stout so the thin body isnít a negative factor. The flavor is roasted espresso beans, chocolate and dark barley. Has a nice dry roasted finish. Simple and tasty and could be an everyday coffee stout that is real sessionable. 16 oz. can shared by Adam Jackson, thanks buddy!

Pours black but daily faint. certainly an appearance of a 6% stout. not much head. Nose is very nice. big roasted espresso with a nice milk chocolate note. Slightly harsh, lots of chocolate, bitterness of cedar and oak and just coffee for days.

16 oz. can shared by brew33crew- thanks again, Jason! Pours a cola brown color with a small beige ring. Really nice coffee aroma, with chocolate, toast, and nuts. The flavor is a muted, watered down version of the same. Light-bodied, and completely flat. Promising nose and appearance, but completely disappointing otherwise.

16 oz can shared by brew3crew. Pours a dark cola brown color with a small creamy beige head. The aroma and flavor have roasted malt, black coffee, hints of chocolate more at the finish, dry, somewhat smooth. Good flavor f or the lower abv.

16 oz can to taster (shared by brew3crew). Looks good for the style; cola with beige head that steadily dissipates into lacing. Smells of dark malt and roasted coffee. Tastes like it smells with a nice, smooth mouthfeel (likely an influence of the oatmeal too). A good example of the style.

Can from Pizza Port Bottle Shop. Pours black with an almost nonexistent head. I definitely get the roasted coffee on the nose. Thereís some coffee on the tongue as well. Unfortunately it doesnít pop for me.

On tap. Black with a fizzy tan head. Sweet molasses, coffee syrup, and chocolate aroma and taste with a malty roasted grain finish. Bright medium bodied palate.

Can from Shane. Thanks! A: Pitch black with a huge foamy mocha head. A bit too much head, but itíll be fine in a tick. N: Big dark chocolate and coffee nose. Bread is also rising up from the bottom. Some green pea. T: Balanced coffee and malt sweetness. Not very heavy in either direction or overall. Basic. M: Lighter bodied with a very creamy mouthfeel. Very easy to drink. O: Easy to take down. Iím enjoying this, though itís not going to blow your mind. Good.

Pours a solid dark brown with the faintest of ruby highlights at the edges when held to light. The aroma is fresh ground coffee beans in spades with a roasty malty edge. Light cream and earthy hop round out the aroma. Roasty earthy coffee grounds with a huge bitter edge and a touch of cream make up the flavor. Pretty straight forward, possibly a bit one sided. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a bitter roasty ashy mouthfeel. I enjoyed the first few sips of this, but as my glass warmed it got harder and harder to finish the pint. The coffee and bitter roast is over the top on this especially at warmer temps. There needs to be more malty sweetness to back up the coffee bite here imho.
