Black House is an oatmeal coffee stout bursting with coffee aroma and flavor. Modern Times is one of the only breweries in the world to roast our own coffee, which allows us to be exceptionally picky about which coffees we use and how we roast them. The result is an abundantly flavorful beer thatís incredibly complex and aromatic, with loads of roast character and a chocolate-covered espresso bean finish. But Black House packs all that flavor into a reasonable package: at only 5.8% ABV, it can comfortably be consumed by the pint.

Can: The aroma consists of dark chocolate, milk chocolate, caramel, and roasted coffee. It pours dark brown with some orange highlights and a small beige head that fades to a thin layer outlined by a slightly thicker ring. The flavor starts with a quick dose of dark chocolate and faint caramel. Thereís a touch of sour fruit in the background. The finish has light-moderate roasted coffee. Itís medium bodied with mild carbonation and a somewhat soft mouthfeel.

Can at the Hangover. Aroma coffee, liquorice, dark fruit. Taste is ice coffee, lots of roast, easy drinking, light vanilla sweetness. Good stuff.

Can. Pours a thick black with a medium head. The flavors are heavy roasted malt with some chocolate and bitter coffee flavors. OK, but I prefer my stouts a bit stronger.

Pours a black color with a roasted coffee aroma. Taste is clean and creamy at the same time. A genuine roasted coffe taste with a well balance cream to it. Almost like someone put cream in a coffe and blended it well. The oatmeal and espresso comes through. A delightful beer that Iím happy was my #800.

Not quite opaque dark mahogany-brown with a one-finger khaki head that settles to a solid film and leaves thick lace. Aromas of dark roasted malt, oats, cocoa, and coffee. Taste is similar with cocoa and coffee beans creating a mild roast bitterness. Medium body, low carbonation, creamy mouthfeel and plenty of coffee and cocoa in the finish.

16oz can. Looks near black with a beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee, light chocolate, some dough, and hints of bitterness. Flavor the same with a good blend of everything. Average to smooth texture. A pretty good stout.

Passable stout, through everything at it, bourbon, coffee beans, chocolate, maybe some oatmeal. Mildly astringent. Bourbon up front.

Moderately bitter chocolate sweetness with a fairly strong coffee presence. A little bit one-dimensional but pretty tasty and satisfying nonetheless.

S: A heavy chocolate coffee roast, almonds, vanilla, oats and some biscuits. P: Completly black with a thin brown head. T: Light coffee, light roast, and some malt. M; Light body with a light roast. O: Not a heavy stout, this one is a light one.

Draft at Pressbox. Dark pour, with strong roasted coffee nose. Flavor is basically just like stale, cold coffee. Thin palate, too. If I wanted to drink cold coffee, Iíd just drink cold coffee.
