Black House is an oatmeal coffee stout bursting with coffee aroma and flavor. Modern Times is one of the only breweries in the world to roast our own coffee, which allows us to be exceptionally picky about which coffees we use and how we roast them. The result is an abundantly flavorful beer thatís incredibly complex and aromatic, with loads of roast character and a chocolate-covered espresso bean finish. But Black House packs all that flavor into a reasonable package: at only 5.8% ABV, it can comfortably be consumed by the pint.

Thank you Brandon! This was poured into a pint glass. The appearance was a dark brown close to black color with a one finger white to off white foamy head that dissipated in about a minute. Light sticky lacing clung decently. The smell had a really nice espresso to roasty coffee bean with a decent oaty note all inclusive and combining pretty much perfectly. Light chocolate does come in to settle my soul. The taste was enthusiastically sweet and roasty through the chocolate and coffee bean wrapping itself around my taste buds. On the palate, this one moves so smooth and roasty over my tongue making me realize that this is deceptively sessionable. Its about a light to medium on the body. Overall, another solid beer from a company I canít get locally. Still, an absolutely stellar beer to have again. It definitely would make a great hybrid of the oatmeal stout to the milk/sweet stout.

The beer is black with a tan head. Solid head. Very good retention. Lots of lacing. Sweet, milky coffee in the aroma. Mild chocolate. A touch of caramel. A bit of berry fruitiness. Light, creamy mouthfeel. Perfectly balanced stout flavor. Moderate sweetness. Lightly bitter finish. Mild acidity. The flavors and feel work together very well. Very refreshing. Nothing particularly jumps out but itís an excellent stout. Lots of flavor for the abv. Easy to drink. Tastes very fresh from the can.

This is a solid oatmeal stout base with a light to medium body, but not light in flavor. On top of that, the in-house roasted cold press coffee is fantastic. Evident, but REALLY pops on the finish...finishing with bitter chocolate, coffee, caramel and roast. Another winner

This beer has a beautiful black color and strong coffee aroma. It has a flavor of coffee but is very mild. Easy drinking and very refreshing. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Can from unknown via Denver. Pours a medium dark brown/black, decent amount of tan head. Aroma stunning, delicate and roasty with chocolate and coffee most prominent but also some coconut and almond, too. Wow! Body medium with a full creaminess and a coffee/roasty bite to the finish. This really does it for me!

Nitro draft at 38 Degrees. Dark brown, not black, with a well-formed khaki head. Big milk chocolate and roast aroma. The flavor is like an awesome mocha milkshake, with cold brew coffee and milk chocolate, roasted malts, and semi-sweet chocolate on the finish. A bit thin other than the nitro, but I actually really like that in this beer. This one is as righteous as your mother.

Smell is creamy chocolate and coffee. Nice coffee stout smell and look. Taste is creamy chocolate, roast coffee, some sweetness. A hint sweeter than ideal for me, and almost like a sweet stout. Medium body and carbonation. Solid coffee stout

Can@Yesprs (21/03/2014) - brown coloured pour with off-white head. Roasted malty aroma and taste, chocolate, coffee, light burnt notes on palate.

Aluminum can from Sproutís: Aroma is a rich and robust malt profile with a scent of black ground coffee and a background of cream. Poured a dark and opaque brown liquid topped with a fluffy foam cap head. The beer is sweet but with a bitter delivery of hops and malts that have been conditioned differently because of the aluminum. Not too shabby for 4 pack for 10 something and this was the 4th brew tasted from Modern Times and I feel this is a promising brewery.

This beer has become my go to drink. I havent found many that can come close to this dark and coffee stout smoothness. It pours very dark with a tan head. Toffee flavors and coffee sweetness that dont overpower the bark malt richness.
