COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Black House is an oatmeal coffee stout bursting with coffee aroma and flavor. Modern Times is one of the only breweries in the world to roast our own coffee, which allows us to be exceptionally picky about which coffees we use and how we roast them. The result is an abundantly flavorful beer that’s incredibly complex and aromatic, with loads of roast character and a chocolate-covered espresso bean finish. But Black House packs all that flavor into a reasonable package: at only 5.8% ABV, it can comfortably be consumed by the pint.

On tap at the brewery. It poured a dark brown color with a tan head. The aroma was of coffee, roasted malts and chocolate. The taste was of coffee, roast and dark chocolate. It had a dry finish with mild bitterness. Nice.

Poured from can to glass. Dark hue with creamy brown head. Aroma is coffee, caramel, vanilla, toast, toffee. Mouthfeel is great with a full body and crisp carbonation. Taste is sweet throughout with an astringent bitterness following. Overall this is a very good brew.

GABF 2014. Black color with a medium head. Light coffee aroma. Flavor is just straight up dark roast coffee. A bit of grains peeking through.

16oz can. Pours black with an off white head. Dominant flavor is coffee. Some chocolate, roasted malt, moderate bitterness. The low ABV and light body make it very drinkable. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

16 ounce can thanks to Justin. Light coffee stout that is fairly creamy with some roast to it. Not a strong coffee aroma.

Pours an opaque black from the van with fluffy tan head that dissipates to leave light lace. Aroma is coffee, soy, roast, slight cream. Taste is all coffee, slight bitterness that coffees back to sweet and roast. Silky mouth, easy drinker, nothing special but nothing bad.

Can. Drak brown pour with small khaki head, minimal lacing. Aroma: roast, chocolate, and a lot of soy sauce. Like coffee with kikkoman. Moderately sweet with roasty finish. Medium body, chalky texture, average carbonation. Overall: way too much soy and sweetness for my taste.

Can from Bine and Vine: My first brew from Modern Times... Does it match the hype the brewery gets? Well there is a solid roast, coffee and biscuity component to this beer. Plenty of Midnight Wheat too but I sure could use a bit more sweetness and/or chocolate tone. Thumbs up on the coffee character but thumbs down on the malt backbone. ::unsure:: will get them another chance.

Sample at the DBLDP on 08/31/2014. Opaque dark brown color with a medium tan head that diminishes steadily to a film. Partial rings of lacing. Aroma of roasted coffee, chocolate and malt. Light-bodied with flavors of chocolate malt, roast coffee and earthy hops. The finish is roasty with a mocha aftertaste. Above average overall.

Bottle to glass. Pours a medium to dark brown color with a light brown head. Aroma is roasted malts, oatmeal, lots of coffee. Flavor is pure breakfast, coffee and oatmeal roast. Medium body with a lingering coffee bitterness. Very good.
