Black House is an oatmeal coffee stout bursting with coffee aroma and flavor. Modern Times is one of the only breweries in the world to roast our own coffee, which allows us to be exceptionally picky about which coffees we use and how we roast them. The result is an abundantly flavorful beer that’s incredibly complex and aromatic, with loads of roast character and a chocolate-covered espresso bean finish. But Black House packs all that flavor into a reasonable package: at only 5.8% ABV, it can comfortably be consumed by the pint.

Draft at Churchkey. Clear dark brown color, beige head. Nice cocoa aroma. Taste is lightly earthy lightly sweet chocolate. Tasty.

Beige head on ultra dark brown body. Aroma of milk chocolate, caramel, cocoa milk, sweet mocca coffee, prune note. Tastes mocca coffee with caramel, dry sweet hops, grass, plum, prunes, liquorice notes - leading to a coffee’ish finish. Good on palate, soft carbonation, semi dry. Very nice stout indeed. Clear very dark brown, small foamy tan head, sizzles away quickly, light lacing; coffee aroma, caramel, roasted malts; smooth mouuthfeel, taste light heavy sweet and medium bitter, coffee, toffee, roasty; lingering sweetbitter aftertaste, coffee, mocha; medium body, thin creamy texture, soft carbonation; a pleasant smooth brew.

Pint (US) can from Brewdog shop. Barely existent tan head, a little lacing. Dark near black body. Nose is mocha coffee, roasted nuts. Flavour is creamy coffee, chocolate, nuts. Milk chocolate on the aftertaste. Medium carbonation, maybe a little too much, mouthfeel is a bit jagged. Really tasty stout.

Taps warm coffee brown with a thick and fine bubbled cinnamon-tan head. Aroma delivers strong quality coffee, roast malt, chocolate and molasses tones, just a little sweet. Flavor presents rich mocha, molasses, roast malt, and subtle toffee and smoky tones. Firm body has good fizz and a lip-smacking mocha finish. Head to the Black House!

Black color with creamy brownish head. The aroma is bready, a bit ashy, fire oven. Smooth mouthfeel, yet quite dry; harmonious combination of roasted malts with some boutique coffee; it has an evident sour touch from the dark malts. Smooth final. There’s a lot going on here.
Very interesting.
