COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Fortunate Islands shares the characteristics of a hoppy IPA and an easy drinking wheat beer. A massive dose of Citra and Amarillo hops gives it a blastwave of tropical hop aromatics: mango, tangerine, and passionfruit all leap out of the glass when poured. Brewed with 60% wheat malt, Fortunate Islands also has the mild, nutty malt backbone, reasonable ABV, and restrained bitterness to make it an outstanding session beer.

Such a tasty beer. Don’t let the wheat scare you off. Super fresh and hoppy. One of my new favorites. Smells like bud and drinks so smooth, with a killer hop addition. Not a hefe. Their best beer of the 4 I’ve had. Loads of fresh hop. Might be my new go-to.

From can to pint glass. Wonderful dense aroma of tropical fruits, mango and star fruit. Pours crystal clear pale gold with moderate low white head and minimal retention. Flavor is tropical and a moderate amount of juicy fruit. Moderate bittering and a dry finish. Lemon lingers late.

Better than the average pale ale, but a little lackluster for a west coast style IPA. A bit malt heavy for the style. Has some nice hop aroma / flavor, and certainly isn’t a bad choice.

Tap at Lomaland. Pours clear golden orange with a small, frothy white head, short retention with spare lacing. Aroma is earthy wheat malt, light lemon zest, citrus and passion fruit hops. Flavor is mildly bitter citrus hops and bitterness, lemon zest, earthy wheat malt and a dry finish. Light body and medium carbonation.

My Bottom Line:
Delicate lemongrass and grapefruit aromatics blow across soft wheat for a quenching pint of New World flavors.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam covers the translucent golden.
-The mouthfeel is almost pils-like; this is crushable, to say the least.
-Bitterness is herbal and also moderate.
-The hop fruitiness gets fruitier and fruitier.
-This is not a complex brew, but it is highly engaging.

On tap at the brewery tasting room.

Draught at CBM Koenji. Rich wheat flavor character blended with a nice exotic hop bouquet, dry finish. Very tasty and balanced wheat ale, a difficult style that tends to be too often boring.

Shared can to mini snifters. Crystal clear deep golden yellow. White head. Nice citrusy hop notes with a wheaty body. Intoxicating mango juice aroma. Gets a little catty for me as it warms but I’m one of those.
