Fortunate Islands shares the characteristics of a hoppy IPA and an easy drinking wheat beer. A massive dose of Citra and Amarillo hops gives it a blastwave of tropical hop aromatics: mango, tangerine, and passionfruit all leap out of the glass when poured. Brewed with 60% wheat malt, Fortunate Islands also has the mild, nutty malt backbone, reasonable ABV, and restrained bitterness to make it an outstanding session beer.

Such a tasty beer. Don’t let the wheat scare you off. Super fresh and hoppy. One of my new favorites. Smells like bud and drinks so smooth, with a killer hop addition. Not a hefe. Their best beer of the 4 I’ve had. Loads of fresh hop. Might be my new go-to.

Pours a clear pale orange-gold color with a medium thick foamy white head that diminishes gradually. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of tropical fruit, hops and wheat. Light-bodied with a melon and citrus character, along with notes of herbal wheat and hops. The finish is mildly bitter with a lingering tropical fruit and hops aftertaste. Pretty good all around.

Can - Pours golden with a filmy off-white head. Nose is really sweet and sugary, with pear and sticky tropical fruit. Stinky onion and dank hops. Big bready malt base. Taste is grassy hops, dank onion, and a dry bready maltiness. Thinnish with mellow carbonation.

Tap at Mikkeller Bangkok. Poured a hazy medium amber with a thin broken white head and a little lace. The aroma is wheat, yeasty citrus hop. The flavour is moderate bitter with a big spicy Citra hop bitter palate and a lingering bitter finish. Mediun bodied with average carbonation.

Pint can from whole foods sb. This beer is heavier than I expected - I notice the wheat but honestly might not ID it if I didn't know it was a wheat beer - nice hop presence as advertised and I like the combo with wheat - an experiment that works well. Definitely worth a can or 4-pack to give it a try ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

A friend in San Diego sent a few over along with some other goodies. This is a really odd beer (but in a good way). I saw "hoppy tropical wheat" and expected an American wheat beer. Nope. Pours clear and mid amber color. Light head, I expected more for a "wheat" beer. Punchy citra aroma, catty, citrus, more complex aromas. Taste is off dry with lots of yummy hops. Aftertaste is clean and hoppy. Not too bitter, they must have hopburst this baby with high quality hops. As the beer warms up, the tropical fruit really starts shining. Tangerine and mango with a bit of pineapple. Boy, this is good stuff. It is really different from big IPAs because it eschews (heh) the bitterness and sweetness, and heads just for a huge aroma of hops. I will have to give cloning this a try .... really nice session beer.

On tap at the brewpub. It poured a hazy golden color with an off-white head. The aroma was of fruity hops, citrus, grass, apples, mango and some hay. The taste was of floral hops, grass, mango, oranges, hay and some pineapples. Good stuff.

Can. Hazy orange liquid with medium off-white. Aroma of mango, pine, pineapple, wheat, light grain and fresh hops. Taste is dry and light bitter with notes of mango, earthy wheat and grapefruit. Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Great hop profile.

GABF 2014. Gold color with a medium head. Aroma of tropical fruit and orange. Flavor switches to danky pine. Strongly bitter and very dry.
