Fortunate Islands shares the characteristics of a hoppy IPA and an easy drinking wheat beer. A massive dose of Citra and Amarillo hops gives it a blastwave of tropical hop aromatics: mango, tangerine, and passionfruit all leap out of the glass when poured. Brewed with 60% wheat malt, Fortunate Islands also has the mild, nutty malt backbone, reasonable ABV, and restrained bitterness to make it an outstanding session beer.

A well made and overall delightful blend of aromas made me expect a stronger flavor body. Not that it was lacking in flavor but it does set a high expectation when the aroma is so rich and colorful. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draught at CBM Koenji. Rich wheat flavor character blended with a nice exotic hop bouquet, dry finish. Very tasty and balanced wheat ale, a difficult style that tends to be too often boring.

Shared can to mini snifters. Crystal clear deep golden yellow. White head. Nice citrusy hop notes with a wheaty body. Intoxicating mango juice aroma. Gets a little catty for me as it warms but Iím one of those.

Pours a clear yellow (almost golden) colour with a small white head. Aroma is a little citrusy with some yeast notes. Taste is a little sweet and mildly bitter. Lighter body, smooth on the palate, and good carbonation. Overall a good beer.

16oz can straight from the can on the train home. Great citrus and pineapple aromas on the nose with a touch of wheat present. As it warms up the citrus gets stronger but never overwhelming. Some banana notes as well. Great light to medium body with average carbonation. Slightly sweet on the palate with nice bitterness coming after. The finish is dry and bitter. A wheat ale for session IPA heads. Great stuff!

First rating for the Wheat Ale style...might as well start with the top-rated beer in this often very light and boring style. 16 ounce can from the 20-can Modern Times box I bought at Costco (a good value at $31.99). Pours a light amber hue with one finger of white foam. AROMA of fragrant fruit (mango, mandarin orange, some peach and lime), honeysuckle and flowers, with a hint of honey/caramel malts. FLAVOR of fruity hops, lighter notes of pine and grassy hops, with some soft wheat and barley malts notes. Hoppy but still soft on the palate and finishes with low to moderate bitterness. Low ABV but great aroma and good flavor...not especially exciting, but I think Modern Times accomplished what they set out to do here in making a super sessionable warm weather beer that far exceeds all the other "wheat" beers. Tap at Craftheads, Tokyo. Hazy golden shade. Thin white cap. Lightly grassy and tropical fruit aroma. Taste has a nicely bitter tropical linger. This is well made and could probably pass for an IPA, but itís a shame that you donít get some of the usual wheat beer characteristics.

Canned 1/12/15. Pours clear light-ish amber with a ring of large white bubbles. Aroma is grapefruit, pine, flowers, meadow, spice, bubblegum, and a somewhat unfortunate soapy plastic note. Mango and peach reveal themselves, too, but something isnít quite right. Taste is peach and mango with toasty pale malts and a slightly sweet, piney finish. Almost a sweet almond note at the end. Slightly oily palate. Decent but not a big fan of that aroma.

Extremely yummy. Pours a filtered looking clear golden yellow with a thin white head. The aroma is fresh and zesty with floral and citrus hops. Light malty backbone of nuts and caramel with a crisp toasty wheat malt. Nice citrus hops with lemon zest dominant. Very drinkable and nice moderate bitterness. Sessionable champ!!

First foray with these guys I think. Nice beer more on the hoppy side than the wheat side. Nice light tropical notes. Lemon and tangerine. Grapefruit bitterness. Wheat a bit in the malt profile flavor. Good light refreshing drink.
