COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Lomaland is Belgian-style saison that’s both complex and quaffable. In keeping with the farmhouse tradition, Lomaland is brewed with barley, wheat, and corn, giving it a complex and delicious malt body that pairs beautifully with food. Czech Saaz hops are added in the kettle to give it a lightly grassy, peppery note and just enough bitterness to cleanse the palate. It’s distinctively rustic, earthy aroma comes from the unique blend of traditional Belgian yeast strains (95% Dupont/5% Westmalle) we use to ferment it.

Can in my MT snifter: Unfiltered hazy yellow with an initial huge fluffy head that leaves only spots of lace. Phenolic and yeast driven barnyard, banana, white pear, pepper. Hay and biscuit malts with a hint of grassy and herbal Saaz hops, mostly upon the finish. Grainy husky mouthfeel that honestly could be tad brighter. Rustic for the most part and quaffable but I think it is a one and done. That corn aftertaste is not helping, do this pure malt and then get back to me.

Can. Clear light golden color with a small white head that leaves a foamy ring. Very yeasty aroma, very Belgium, with hay and corn. The flavor is yeasty, only slightly funky though. The flavor is also yeast-dominant. Very dry with a grassy hops, slight barnyard. Slightly bitter finish. Medium-light body with fairly lively mouthfeel. Pretty good.

Straw-colored with soft haze and a soapy, bubbly head of pure white. Sweet pear syrup, white pepper and wheat in the nose. The flavor’s very phenolic front, peppery. Also get alcohol, unripe pear and lavender. Slightly rubbery. Dry finish. Medium body is soft and lightens up as it moves around. Moderate fizz. Some peppery and alcoholic heat deposit soft tang on sides of tongue. A little tangy and one dimensional, as American-made saisons tend to be.

Pours a near clear, bright gold with short lasting white head. Spicy and earthy in the aroma. Citrus zest, coriander (or pepper?), as well. Flavour is cleaner than the aroma. Wheat is big. Peppery spice, and a slightly sweet note to an otherwise dry beer. The finish is dry and spicy. Light body, almost too light.

Tallboy from Foodshow in Shibuya. Poured into a Duvel tulip. Pours a clear light gold color with a modest white head that dissipates fairly quickly, but leaves a rim throughout. Big farmhouse funk and yeast aromas present with a touch of lemon, grain and orange peel. Light-medium body with average carbonation. Taste is more of the same with the lemon and yeast really standing out. Dry, crisp and refreshing with a touch of tartness. Dry finish that lingers a bit but cleans up nicely. Wonderful saison and not overly sweet like so many American saisons.

On tap at Modern Times Tap Room in North Park. Pours a slightly hazy pale yellow colour with a frothy white head that quickly dissipates. Aroma has a nice amount of hops, banana and spice, there is also some yeast notes. Taste is sweet but not overly so. Lighter body, lively carbonation, and thinner on the palate. Overall a really enjoyable saison.
