COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Formerly known as Modrá Hvězda 14° Tmavé. Unfiltered.

amazingly black and thick and rich with an off-white head. aroma of cocoa powder. despite seeming to have very little sweetness, i tasted sultanas, molasses, strawberry jam and a drop of espresso. very full for a czech dark beer, probably the most stout-like one i´ve tried

PETka z pivovaru. Very dark, nearly nlack colour, large beige head. Malty nose. Full-bodied, flavours of caramel, chocolate and cocoa powder, also roasted malt. Slightly hoppy, not too sweet overall.

Tap @ the brewpub.
By far their best beer. Pours a deep mahogany red with a wonderful, creamy, small, beige head. Aroma is pleasantly malty, some grain and good degree of roasted malts. Fine, creamy mouthfeel. Flavour is pleasantly sweet, but never too much. Nice combination of caramel and roasted malts. Hops and roasted malts combine nicely in the finish. Nice.

My Bottom Line:
This cherry-flavored mokaccino of a Tmavé thrives on its sensual body and elaborate malt complexity. Another highly successful Modra Hvezda product.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A thick layer of foam covers the apparently clear ruby-tinged dark brown.
-There are few hops in this one, even in the finish.
-The nose is rather fruity, swaying from cherries to cranberries, from raisins to prunes.
-The body on this one is as hedonistic as their Polotmavé’s.

On tap at the brewpub.

(Rating #1660)

Draught at the brewpub: Deep ruby-amber coloured, persistent beige-brownish head; delicate dryish dark-malty nose, traces of roasted-malt and coffee detectable; moderate to stronger bitter-sweet flavour, astonoshingly light bodied for a beer of 5.0% ABV; lingering dryish malty-bitter finish with traces of liquorice and a subtle sweetness. Very pleasant, very well balanced Dunkel...........

Back from a Czech Republic pub-crawl this is part of my express ratings for the “typical” Světlý 11°- (Czech light Pils), Světlý 12°+ (Czech Pils), Polotmavý (Czech Amber Lagers) and Tmavý (Czech Black Lagers). Non-typical beers will receive personalized descriptions after the express ratings.
-------- /> How: Tap at brewpub (Modrá Hvězda, Dobřany, Czech Republic)
The look: Clear dark ruby body with a medium beige head
To me a typical Czech Tmavé (Czech Black Lager) is: Dark malts and barely any roastiness sensation. Some dark fruits flavours (raisins with a little figs, dates and prunes) wrapped in smooth dark caramel (borderline toffee) and a subtle chocolate note. A bit bready. Moderately sweet without much hops presence and only a mild bitterness (voluntary unbalanced it seems). Very smooth body, like a watery cream.
This one: As above but a little but a bit more roasted and dry than the average Tmavé. Very good.

Tap at the brewpub during RBESG
Poured a very dark, almost black red colour with a small head that went away fast. A light but nice caramelly nose. The taste is caramel again, very creamy. good maltiness, even if it’s a bit light overall. A solid, quality dunkel that’s very drinkable to boot.

[on tap at brewpub] Coffee-hazlenut-vanilla aroma. Opaque black covered by a tan, flanel blanket that laces the glass. Smooth toasted coffee flavour developing into vanilla. A bit sweet that could use a little more bitterness, but still quite good. Medium body and even a little chewy with moderate carbonation and a slightly bitter finish.
