COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Originating in a home brew recipe from Moerlein’s Brewers Rian Umbach and Al Sheets, Altered Wheat is an aggressively hopped American Wheat. Powering this up is the excessive use of Centennial, Sorachi Ace, and Pacific Jade hops for a huge citrus character.

I’d probably call this an APA. It’s cloudy orange w/ a foamy head. Its nose is citrusy with maybe a bit of woody pine character. Tasting it, a dill-like note comes out, likely due to the Sorachi ace hops used. It’s relatively dry but medium bodied w/ creamy carbonation. It finishes w/ solid herbal bitterness and a lingering creamy sensation on the tongue. This is one of those beers I didn’t think much of at first but grew on me throughout the glass.

on tap @ Firehouse Grill / Cincinnati OH --- Clear golden amber color, bright white one-finger head, sheets of lace. Nice aroma of malt. Taste is sweet malt that adds carbonation and light hops on the swallow. A simple, but solid, full-bodied, summer quencher that also works well with food.

Can shared by a friend. Clear gold pour with a thick white head. Aroma of malt, pine, grass and citrus. Malty flavor with cucumber hop character before a piney hop finish.

Can. Pours golden with a frothy white head. Good cling. Aromas are pine and sweet malt. Flavors are pine needles, sweet malt, bitter citrus and biscuit. Well balanced floral hop bite in the finish. Rich, smooth mouthfeel; slightly oily. This is a rich pale ale with a lot of character. Nearly an IPA. Very, very nice.

12 ounce can poured into a pint glass. The beer is a bright ha y gold with a white head of foam. The aroma has tropical fruits, pineapple, some lemon zest. Juicy, fruity sweet taste. Pretty refreshing. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Easy to drink.

4oz on tap at the Moerlein Lager House. Clear golden, sort of orange color. Thin off-white head, leaving decent but kind of loose lace. Orange rind aroma, mild mustiness, some caramel and bigger breadiness. Moderate sweet taste, light bitter. Drinks kind of malt forward with mild citrusy and slightly peppery hop. Medium body, lightly slick. Lighter carbonation. A decent wheat ale / pale ale hybrid. A bit too malty and sweet for me though, and the hop character that’s there is a little rindy.

Draft at GABP - wheaty with grassy hops. Citrus aftertaste. Tap handle said pale ale and so I expected an APA... Oh well.

Draft at JTap’s on Glenway Avenue on August 30, 2014. Dark amber hue, fairly big wheat/fruit nose, moderate tangy bittersweet flavor with some yeasty notes. Nice but something was a little off in the finish. I would try this again at a place that caters to beer fans, not the macro crowd like this place does. Not sure how clean the lines are kept.

Draft sample. Poured an clear golden color with an average frothy white head that mostly lasted with very good lacing. Moderate citrus and wheat aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium bittersweet flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. Solid drinkable beer.
