Moerlein Barbarossa is slow-aged with a deep reddish brown color and a malt aroma derived from Munich dark malt. The balanced finish invites a toast to the return of a legend.

UPDATED: FEB 9, 2009 Pours a deep brownish copper with little lacing and quickly-disappearing light tan head. Aroma of caramel, dried fruit, and cooked asparagus. Slightly sweet, flavors of orange, some toasted malt, alcohol. Finishes slightly sour. Rather disappointing, would not buy again. Purchased 355ml bottle, 9/28/08, Kroger Marketplace, Franklin, Ohio. Sampled 9/29/08.

Dark red. No head. Smells of wet cardboard. Dirty, malty taste. strange and cheap tasting.

Light copper, almost a dirty straw color. Malt flavors. Sweetish with a sticky quality. Really nice nose: caramels, malts, raisins drowned in sugar. Warm. Good balance at the end. Good.

Pours a clear, deep copper with a small off-white head that dissipates quickly to a ring with no lacing. The aroma has a lot of roasted malts with sweet dark fruits and caramel on top. A hint of hops in the nose as well. More of the same (in a good way) in the taste with a huge sweet caramel malt backbone and only a hint of the roasted quality in the finish. Hops make an appearance in the aftertaste with the faintest bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied, creamy, and sweet. This is an extremely drinkable dunkel and a very good beer overall.

Bottle thanks to alexsdad06: Pours a transparent dark copper mahogany with a thin, spotty-lacing off-white head. Aroma of toasty grainy slightly musty Munich malts and a touch of authentic noble hops. Body starts fairly full with a nice doughy dark caramel sweetness and mild bittering hop balance with some light fruity notes. FInishes smooth and quite drinkable. A pretty good dunkel.

Pours a dark reddish brown color with a medium sized tan head. Aroma is a roasted malt and very sweet, like candy and a little bit nutty. Flavor is also very malty with a lot more grain coming in than was apparent on the nose. Still, there is a very sweet underlying character that drives any true hop bitterness out of the beer, which is a bit disappointing. Still a nice beer for the malt heads out there

got this guy from alexsdad06. Thanks man! Pours a dark ruby with a small off white head. Up front malt and grain aroma. Flavor is lots of malts, very sweet. Some grain and caramel round it out. Finishes sweet, interesting.

Picked up a 6’er for the Euro Cup, congrats Spain. Barbarossa is copper in color. When I poured this beer in to a Lager glass it formed a nice two-finger head. The head had a tan color to and it laced well ,however it did diminish to a thin sized head before I made it halfway through the beer. The aromas featured roasted malts and a hint of chocolate. The flavors included chocolate, a bit of smokiness, some grain and nuttiness ,but the roasted malts are the major players. Overall it was a good representative of Christian Moerlein. I only wish that I slowed down a bit and saved at least one of the six for after the game.
