Pours a translucent mahogany with a medium, white head that stays. Superb lacing. Malty, slightly roasted aroma. Full, creamy mouthfeel. Malty flavor, slightly finished by some sour notes in the finish. Nonetheless, a good example of the style.

Bottle. Black bread and chocolate malt and prune aroma. Chestnut with a small, quickly dissipating tan head. Dark bread, sweet chocolate malt, and prune flavor. Smooth medium body. I really loved the chewy dark bread flavor going on in this one, and found it going down far too easily. This is one I could drink a little too much of if I wasn’t careful.

Originally reviewed: 6/18/10. 12oz bottle picked up in Findlay, OH. Poured into a mug. Pours a dark sweet tea-looking color with a thin tan head resting on top. Little retention, less lace. Scents of dark fruits, raisins, faint alcohol, and warm pumpernickel.
The body is of moderate depth. Carbonation level is decent. Good crisp feel. As far as flavor goes, this is one of the best of the style I’ve ever had. They really nailed it where it counts. Great bready flavors abound, some faint molasses, and plenty of chocolate malts. This reminds me at times of a chocolate drink. Very well-done. I could have another, no problem. Recommend.

Not much head, and a very dark amber color with deep hints of red. Good malty flavor up front that fades quickly.

12 oz bottle via Benny: Pours dark, mostly black with a nice tan head. Taste is complex with toasted malts and a light spruce hop. Palate is smooth, bubbly and very complex for a lager. Very nice offering.
