Tallahassee, Fl - Market Square Liquors. 12 oz bottle. Medium copper, light white head. Toffee-like aroma, hints of root beer. Flavor has some toffee accents, some baked brown bread and a faint mention of licorice. Mouthfeel is thick enough. Decent cold November night companion.

Pours a dark amber in color with a nice inch of frothy head. Head quickly recedes to a ring around the top of the glass. Smell is spice and malty. There is a definite "winter" scent in this beer. Almost a mint and pine smell. Smells refreshing. Taste is more hops than I was expecting. This is a good beer. Nice crisp mouthfeel. Just may be my favorite offering from Moerlein.

a great tasting winter ale from a brewery that makes almost exclusively german style beers.......bigtaste but amber colored rather than deep red like most winter ales......a gem

12 oz. bottle. Pours a deep amber color with an average size creamy white head. The aroma is moderately sweet malt, caramel, fruits and nuts. The flavor opens with moderately sweet caramel malt and dark fruits. Later, it almost has a spicy bread quality. An attempt at hoppy bitterness tries to come through in the finish, but is not enough. Overall, this is fairly well done and I am encouraged by the new beers Moerlein has started to offer in recent months.

Bottle thanks to alexsdad06. Pours an amber with small white head. Very malty nose with caramel and toasted nut. Flavor is roasted sweet malt with hints of toasted malt. Nice creamy texture with slight bitter hoppy finish, almost a heavy roasted coffee bite at the end.

12oz bottle. thanks alexsdad for this extra. pours clear ruby with creamy white head. a really sweet matly aroma with nuts and mild dark fruits. flavor is bready, bland mild chocolate and dark fruits. not much going on in the flavor dept. an odd hoppy bitterness coming through but not much hop flavor. a big hop flavor in this would be killer and remind me of GI X-mas 07. a nice brew and I would enjoy this while walking around the Christkindl market in Chicago in sub-zero temps.

Courtesy of Alexsdad06, thanks Brad. 12 oz bottle. Poures dark amber color with a medium creamy egg shell color head. Nose is soft but vinous. Fruits, malty and some spice. Initial taste begins with a tingling carbonation displaying red fruits, chocolate, sweet malts. Mid palate brings some spices before tangling up with vinous notes. Finishing with bitter hops smacking the palate and light chocolate. Mild dry finish but with a good palate duration. Medium body. Good head retention and some lacing of the glass. Not complex, but interesting.

Pours an brownish-amber color with an off-white head. Aroma is of fruits, citrus hops, slight chocolate, caramel malts, and spices. Flavor is of very much the same with plenty of spices and fruits. Slight bitterness on the finish with a little bit of a lingering flavor. Pretty good beer.

Bottle courtesy of Allaboutstout. Pours mahogany with a nice tan head. Smells of roses, soap, some spice, tea, touches of citrus. Tastes of chocolate up front with some nice spicy touches. Some earthy qualities are also present. Mouthfeel is full. Finish yields some raisins and elements of bitterness. Lots of depth in this one.

11/30/2007: Moerlein Christkindl Winter Warmer Ale pours a warm amber color with a somewhat lasting beige head. The visible carbonation looks like a light snow shower as the bubbles drift around in the glass on their way to the surface. The aroma includes a thick maltiness, a hint of cough syrup, and some citrusy gingerbread-like spiciness. The flavor has a warm, full caramel maltiness in the front that is sweet with some bitterness and citrus hoppiness in the finish. There are suggestions of ripe fruit and a buttery quality in the middle. Some faint spicy notes are also intermingled with the bitterness in the finish. I don’t really get any chocolate notes, but there definitely is a hefty caramel maltiness. This beer has a medium to medium-full body that is quite smooth and mellow. Overall, this is a nicely balance brew that has potential. Not only is it quite easy to drink, but it is another glimpse at the new and improved Moerlein. However, there is something in the mid-palate of all the new Moerlein beers (OTR, 5th & Vine, Christkindl) that seems to be off and detracts from the overall experience slightly...

12 fl. oz. bottle from Tmoney99. Thanks Tom! Rating #5 for this beer...
