Bottle. Clear reddish brown with thick foamy head that disappears fairly quickly. Heavy caramel malt aroma. Similar taste with some dark ripe fruit notes. Kinda syrupy sweet. Not much carbonation. Overall, not bad; just too sweet for my taste.

Dark brown. Toasted malts, sweet, chocolate, toffee. Full bodied. Flavor is similar to the aroma. Decent Bock, but kind of dull.

This starts off really nice. Dark red pour. Smooth body with lots of caramel malt and dark fruit flavors. But it gets old about halfway through. Flavor becomes syrupy sweet.

Trade with Aurelius - thanks! Pours a murky dark orange-brown with a thin but long lasting off-white head. Aroma has some nice bubble gum accents, a touch of dates and raisins. Flavor is belly warming with some nice toffee accents, some pruney notes, some dates and raisins and a hint of cotton candy. Thickish mouthfeel. Nice winter treat.

UPDATED: APR 16, 2013 Nice strong aroma and dark brown appearance. Toasty and Carmel/chocolate sweetness. Lot of flavor with almost no hop presence. Lot of flavor but goes down easy. Flavors are fairly simple and not very complex but good at what it’s good at.

Clean, but very weak aroma. Nice deep ruby color. Taste has a pleasant chewiness to it, malt reminiscent of Spaten. OK.

Bottle to snifter (shared with the Mrs.). Looks solid; a semi-transparent amberish-brown with off-white lacing. Smells and tastes of caramel, toffee, and malt with an average mouthfeel. A decent example of the style.

Mahogany brown with minimal head and lacing. Rich bready malt on the nose with dark fruit and a touch of bourbon. Caramel and toffee sweetness with hints of coffee, raisins, plums and warming alcohol. Medium body, almost zero carbonation, sticky mouthfeel, and a heavy carmelized malt finish.

Pours translucent brown with almost no head, which dissolves quickly and has no lacing. Faint nose of toasted, nutty malt. Taste of nutty malt...pretty basic, but pretty good.
