COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A tribute to Christian Moerlein’s first brews displayed at national expositions and crowned wherever exhibited, this light copper lager has a rich malt flavor with a toasty character balanced with noble hops for a dry, clean finish.

Sample on tap at the Lager House. Clear golden color. Good thin white head. Good lace. Bready aroma, lightly salty. Medium body. lighter carbonation. Light bitter taste. Light bite in the finish. Kind of a tinny aftertaste. Not really impressed, I think they need tweak this. Not up to the new Moerlein standard, in my opinion

Clear copper, nice white head. Smells like toasted pumpernickel bread. Taste is also toast, some caramel and molasses. Dryish finish.

Clear orange amber with a lasting half inch of spongy foam. Nose is spicy butterscotch apple with some touches of twangy orange and cocoa; almost like an ESB. Taste is caramel apple with some toasted grain, earthy banana nut bread, metallic orange, and light cocoa. Light-medium body is nearly too sweet but balanced a bit on the finish, and has medium carbonation. This is a textbook example of the little-known Vienna banana style.

On tap at the lager house. Amber color with a sticky off white head. Raw grain nose. Caramel sweetness with some apple fruitiness. Full flavored beer for a low abv.

Aroma of light toasted/nutty malts with a very slight herbal hop presence. Appearance is chestnut brown with slightly sticky white head. Flavor is fairly toasty (even a little buttery) up front; the finish isn’t bone-dry, but the hops do just enough to quell the maltiness. Palate is soft/bubbly and the body is medium. A solid interpretation of a mundane style.

Draft to pint at Oktoberfest. Looks solid; a semi-transparent copper with sticky off-white head. Smells like a malty lager. Tastes like it smells with an average mouthfeel. A decent example of the style.

Dark amber with a 1/4" head and streaks of lace. The taste is traditional caramel malt with bitterness that moves it through the finish, which is where the trouble starts. The finish turns sour and oily, leaving a coating on the tongue, which moves a reasonable lager to "not recommended."

Draft at Moerlein Lager House on April 8, 2012. Dark amber/red hue, small slightly off white head, fine malty aroma, good firm malty taste with some balancing bitterness to keep things honest. The best vienna I have had in recent memory.

12oz bottle - pours caramel with off-white head. Nose is toffee and cardboard. Flavor adds bread and grass. Taste is a little sweet and equally bitter. Light body with thin texture. I think this hits the final nail on the coffin - I am done with this style. burp.

Had on tap at the Moerlien Lager House - This is an excellent Vienna style lager with upfront cereal grain flavor and good hops and malt combo!
