It’s a cloudy chocolate pudding color with a caramel head that disappears quickly. Scents of wood, roasted malt, and coffee make up the bouquet. This is a very easy drinking, lighter stout and has a slightly front mouth feel. It finishes with a coffee bitterness.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 crhensel (97) - New Jersey, USA - APR 11, 2010
(Bottle into English pint) Pours like any other stout, black with a half finger tan head that fell way too fast. Nose was heavy of coffee and roast, with a hint of licorice in there. Taste followed suit with a sweet coffee start with a very tart finish. the biggest downside for me was the overly aggressive carbonation here. For a beer that looks completely flat, and that had absolutely no head after a couple of minutes, the bubbles in this one burned my tongue if I let it sit for any little amount of time. Letting this air for a bit, and a few strong swirls to rebuild the head (albeit for a VERY short time) helped cut the carbonation and bring this back into the creamy stout zone,
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Darkover (1499) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - APR 8, 2010
Murky brown color with a big tan head. Aroma and flavor of coffee and a little smoke. Medium bodied short bitter finish.

12 oz bottle into English pint. Aromas of wheat bread, cinnamon, coffee, black licorice. Pours brownish black with a thick tan head which dissipates in two minutes, leaving a collar of foam full of big ugly bubbles. Looks like a Pepsi. Virtually no lacing. Tastes very roasty. Starts sweet and finishes just slightly bitter. Medium-high carbonation. A little watery. Overall, a fairly boring stout.
2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 potbeerjob (1343) - Denver, Colorado, USA - APR 5, 2010
Bottle. Cloudy dark brown with frothy unimpressive head. Aroma is strange - big newspaper smell, roastedness, sweet grains, like an off-chocolate. Taste is sweet roasted maltiness, again with a strange tinge. Lots of carbonation, medium bodied but crisp. Looks and tastes like a homebrew. Unique in some ways for a stout, but not necessarily positive.

Bottle. Pours a near black with a thin medium brown head. Aroma is of burnt buttery popcorn, can’t really describe it any other way. Flavor begins with roasted malts but the buttery finishes it off.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 crazyvin (1705) - New York, USA - MAR 27, 2010
Had a black body with a tan head that had little retention. Aroma was mostly coffee but did have a subtle smoke like note to it. Flavor was similar and all the carbonation was minimal the body was rather thin. Finish was dry.

UPDATED: APR 1, 2010 12 oz. bottle beer of the month club- Pours dark brown to almost black with a thick tan head that disappears a little too quickly, aroma is roasted nuts, coffee and chocolate malt. The flavor has a strong coffee flavor, not bad but had better. The biggest drawback of this beer was the appearance, it started out as a perfect looking Stout, nice frothy tan head, I even considered giving it a 5 in appearance, but that quickly changed after about 3 drinks, all the head was gone and it looked flat, it didn’t taste flat, if I shook it up the head would reappear, but then disappear again. Too bad because overall it was a very tasty stout.

Bottle from beer of month club: Jet black with a big foamy tan head, no lacing, pronounced coffee and smoke aroma, flavor is of roasted malts, coffee, and a bit of smoke. Lots of coffee flavor. Lots. Slightly watery mouthfeel.

Pour is a complete black with a small tan head. Aroma is a nice roasted malt with a little smokeyness. Flavor is again a big roasted malt with a little coffee and chocolate left on the tounge after the swallow. The better of the 2 beers i’ve had from this brewer.
