3/14/2012: Moerlein Batch #1 Special Bitter... Aroma: Fruity and spicy (seems like there is some rye in this beer) with a touch of citrusy hops and toffee maltiness. Appearance: Murky/muddy amber color with a nminimal beige crown. Flavor: Malty caramel with a mild to moderate level of bitterness; slightly citrusy; nice dryness in the finish; extremely drinkable. Palate: Medium-bodied; smooth, average texture. Overall: I like this beer quite a bit; however, it seems a bit heavy and overly malty with a non-traditional hop profile for an English Special Bitter; regardless, it is quite tasty and a nice new offering from Moerlein.

Draft at the Lager House. Pours a cloudy amber color with a smaller beige head. The aroma is grassy with subtle spiciness, some citrusy hops and caramel malts. The flavor has a malty caramel base with moderate bitterness, light citrus and some earthy notes. Medium bodied, smooth, For what it is, this is pretty decent. I am always happy to try new local things.

Draft pint at the new Lager House. Pours a murky, dull earth-toned amber with a small off-white head. Aroma of grassy hops, citrus, mild spices, caramel malts, and earth. Flavor of citrusy, grassy hops, earth, toffee, spice, and a woody note. Light-medium bodied, with modest carbonation and a smooth, bitter mouthfeel. More American-style bitter. Not bad, one of the better Moerlein offerings.

Draft. Poured hazy copper color with an average fizzy off-white head that was mostly lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate toasted malt aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium smooth bittersweet flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. This is a good beer.

Draft: pours a burnt orange color with an off white head. Aromas are fruit and citrus, and a little bready. It has a nice bready flavor that is balanced by the bitterness from a delicious hop profile. Similar to the OTR, but better.
