You’ve made a discovery – a Golden Helles from the original Lager House build by Christian Moerlein in Cincinnati’s Brewery District over 150 years ago. Today, Moerlein Lager House is brewed to the same standards that declared it the first American Brew to pass the Reinheitsgebot Purity Law. This Munchner-styled Helles is a balanced lager featuring a lightly toasted, yet defined malt character and a touch of hops for a clean finish. Moerlein Helles features a deep golden color, 2-row and Munich malt, Hersbrucker hops, averages 5.2% alcohol by volume with an original gravity of 13 and bitterness units of 19.

Enjoyed on tap at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati, OH while taking in a Braves vs. Reds game. Appearance like bud light, maybe a tad darker. Aroma light lager yeast with maybe a touch of hops. Taste like bud light, maybe I got hosed? Actually, maybe a bit more crisp than BL, but nowhere near as good as the other Moerlein I had.

Least fave of the Moerlein series. Light hops and vanilla on the scent with a hint of spices. The taste was great, lil’ hops and spices on the tongue, and somewhat of a nice malty balance. Finished a little roasty and bitter - the only part I liked.

This starts with a mild sweet, lager aroma. It pours a clear gold with a full white head. This starts with a kiss of sweetness, and has a crisp bitter finish. This is an easy drinking beer, and would make a good introduction to craft.

Pours a lite honey color with a little white head. nearly no aroma. The flavor is nice. Malt and hops that to well together. Goes down smooth. Pretty good brew.

I liked this beer and thought it quite good to style with citrus and pinnapple flavors and fragrance of flowers, deep golden not much head or lacing but definetly drinkable and fresh.

Very clear straw/gold color. Super white head without much size, retention or lacing. Looks like a "macro" lager or pilsner. A few bubbles streaming up from the bottom. A grainy aroma. Some corn and wheat notes. It smells clean. Maybe some toasted notes, but they are really faint. The taste provided the grain with some buttery flavors. Got the corn again, but I also detected some sweetness. Clean throughout. A supportive bitterness adds a bit of complexity. Light to medium mouthfeel. Refreshing and mostly dry. Crisp and easy going. Left touches on the palate. This to me, is a step above the "macros." It still has some of the characteristics, however like the pronounced corn and grain aromas and tastes. This would be nice in the Summer, but I would probably look elsewhere after a couple.

Light lager compared to others in its class, nice head. Clear and golden. Water smell. Nice spicyness. Easy and clean finish, average beer.

Poured into a flute. 3.0 A: Light straw color and crystal clear. Two fingers of soapy head that falls quickly, even in a flute. Not really any lacing going on. 4.5 S: The aroma is quite enjoyable. Lots of sweetness, but not cloying at all. Grainy and a touch of straw. Simple, yet elegant. Hops are minimal. 4.0 T: Again, sweet yet not cloying. Earthy, a bit grainy but much less than in the smell. A bit doughy as well. Hops are minimal again and it works well. 4.5 M: Medium body. Good carbonation and creamy. Everything checks out here. 5.0 D: Pretty good beer. I usually hate the style, but this one is a winner. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 10-12-2009 01:35:41

Moerlein delivers a classic experience with a very clean Helles brewed to style. Pours a deep golden with a finger width white head. No lacing. Aroma shows grassiness, cracker crust and lemon. Flavor is balanced with light malt persisting into the aftertaste. Lightly nutty. Classic noble twang is evident throughout.

Clear pale gold body with a very thin white head. Light, slightly fruity aroma. The palate is rather thin, but quite smooth. The flavor isn’t bad, but it’s not anything exciting. Subtle sweetness up front is nudged aside by a weak citrus bite. Not bad.
