COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Youíve made a discovery--a well-hopped IPA inspired by the revolutionaries of Cincinnatiís Northern Liberties. North of Liberty St. and beyond the reach of municipal law, the area was known for tolerance of beliefs and behaviors, which were shunned in Cincinnati proper prior to 1849. Moerlein Northern Liberties draws inspiration from these free-spirits with this hoppy, well-balanced, copper IPA in pursuit of Life, Liberty, and Hoppiness.

6/03/2010: Christian Moerlein Northern Liberties IPA... Aroma: Bright citrus peel hops; some general beer-yness; toffee malts. Appearance: Orange color with a slight chill haze; large, foamy, ivory-colored head; puffy lacing; medium level of carbonation. Flavor: High bitterness right off the bat; citrus peel and leafy hops; watery and grainy in the middle; slightly metallic finish; become more oily once is breathes. Palate: Medium-light to medium body; lots of carbonation. Overall: Refreshing; a beer doesnít need to be completely balanced, but something additional is needed on the malt side of this beer; the bitterness level is nice and quite large; needs some additional body without adding sweetness...

Chattanooga, Tn. - Riverside Wine & Spirits - 12 oz bottle. Dark orange pour, nice off-white head. Solid, patented spruce aroma. Nice bitter grapefruit notes with just a bit of caramel to balance it out, but tends to be a bit one dimensional. Slightly stinging mouthfeel. Overall decent.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours a hazy orange with a small white head. Aroma of caramel malt, tropical fruits. Flavor of tropical fruits, floral hops, and light bready malt in the finish. Some bitterness in the finish too. A fruity IPA, reminds me of the Mikkeller hop series. 8/4/8/4/15 (3.9/5)

Pours amber with copper tint. Minimal head. Little to no hop bite, incorrect pallet for an IPA, tastes more like a lager with grass notes. -To IPA is to be.

Pours orange-amber with a steady, light tan head. Aroma of sweet orange malt. Taste is malty, fruited, grass/herb hop bittering...a little bread. Slightly bland in the hop department, but itís ok.

Bottle, Tap: this is a great beer. I think that itís my favorite offering by Moerlien. Itís malty, with a great grapefruity citrusy pine hop presence that just sits right on top. Good Stuff.

Bottle pour into pint. Hazy amber color. Nose of breach fruit. Taste initial mild sweetness followed by astringent bitterness. Not much aromatic hop. Long lasting bitter aftertaste.
