COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
You’ve made a discovery--a well-hopped IPA inspired by the revolutionaries of Cincinnati’s Northern Liberties. North of Liberty St. and beyond the reach of municipal law, the area was known for tolerance of beliefs and behaviors, which were shunned in Cincinnati proper prior to 1849. Moerlein Northern Liberties draws inspiration from these free-spirits with this hoppy, well-balanced, copper IPA in pursuit of Life, Liberty, and Hoppiness.

nearbeer (4166) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - APR 29, 2011
UPDATED: SEP 7, 2011 12 oz bottle. Clear copper with a little ring of creamy bubbles and nice lace. Earthy pine, cereal, and citrus nose. Flavor is similar, but has some soap and plastique; a slightly odd bitterness. Light medium body is oily and soft, a bit too frothy, but pretty well-balanced.

Clear orangey copper, nice white head. Nice aroma - grapefruit, fresh mown grass or hay. Some biscuity notes, too. Clean and crisp, and a little lighter bodied. Some grassy, lightly floral hop notes and a caramelly, toasty finish. Simple, but tasty.

illinismitty (2270) - Nashville, Tennessee, USA - APR 8, 2011
Bottle from Midtown. Pours translucent amber with an off white head. Aroma of caramel, sweet breads, and fruity ale esters. Medium bodied with average carbonation, but texture feels a little over filtered. Flavor caramel malt and piney hops. Finish has a bitter citrusy bite. Soapy astringency lingers on the palate. Very "budget" tasting for an IPA

kassner (1436) - Wexford, Pennsylvania, USA - APR 8, 2011
Very nice IPA, not much head, a ltlle lacing, honey colored, but plenty of hops, someonions and iron in the taste and fragrance, a little funky but just big in hops.

cbfobes (2686) - Quad Cities, Illinois, USA - MAR 27, 2011
Poured from 12oz bottle, pours a dark golden with a thick fluffly white head, aroma has a nice bitterness with pine notes and some floral, the flavor on the front end is very bitter with pine notes, the backend finishes somewhat sweet, nothing really impressive but not terrible.

12 oz bottle. Pours a deep golden amber with a frothy off white head. Aroma is mostly piney hops, a bit reminiscent of sierra nevada pale, just a touch softer and a bit sweeter with some caramel and biscuit notes. Flavor starts with some quick piney bitterness, but picks up some sweeter bready notes and a touch of citric. Finishes bitter and aggressive, leaving a sharp biting note on the tongue. Medium body and a sharp carbonation. Must be a fresh bottle, because it’s not off at all. Again, like a weaker Sierra Nevada, very sessionable

It has a piny aroma, very nice. Also a floral hoppy smell to it. A nice darker/medium amber color. It has great drinkablitiy, nice going down. Very bitter after taste. A good bitter after taste.

Bottle shared by someone at the September 2010 Metro Detroit tasting. Poured a clear amber with an off-white head that dissipated slowly to the edges. Aroma was had a slight pine note with sweet bread and cereal. The pine came out more in the flavor with sweet bread and cereal backing.

Bottle. Pours a quiet true amber color with a quick uprising of foam that then dwindles away. There’s a light malty aroma with a hint of spruce. This drinks with a decent woody hoppiness and a balanced backdrop. So far the better Moerlein option among the sampler pack I bought. (#3969, 8/22/2010)

Bottle. Very slightly hazy copper with nice eggshell head and descent lace. Solid aroma of caramel and bready malt with a nice earthy hoppiness to compliment. Very balanced. The flavor is similar, but with more hop quality--resinous on the end, leading to a dry finish. There is an almost fruity quality in the middle. Medium body and medium to low carbonation. Overall: though it ain’t super interesting, it is undeniably solid. I’d be interested to see if the hop quality is much different when sampled fresh on draft at the brewpub.
