You’ve made a discovery--a well-hopped IPA inspired by the revolutionaries of Cincinnati’s Northern Liberties. North of Liberty St. and beyond the reach of municipal law, the area was known for tolerance of beliefs and behaviors, which were shunned in Cincinnati proper prior to 1849. Moerlein Northern Liberties draws inspiration from these free-spirits with this hoppy, well-balanced, copper IPA in pursuit of Life, Liberty, and Hoppiness.

Bottle pour into pint. Hazy amber color. Nose of breach fruit. Taste initial mild sweetness followed by astringent bitterness. Not much aromatic hop. Long lasting bitter aftertaste.

12oz bottle from House Beer. Orange-gold pour with a finger of white head. Big resiny grapefruit and caramel malt aroma. Tastes of grass, bread, earthy, citrus peel. Light to medium bitter. Thinnish palate. Nice enough.

Not bad. This beer was better than I was expecting. A nice hoppy and floral aroma. Medium body with a smooth hoppy middle and end. Malty sweet backbone.

Good IPA. Not great. Good blend of hop and malt. Not too overwhelming either way. Enjoy.

Draft. Orange malt and orange peel aroma. Golden yellow with small head. Sweet tangerine malt and moderately bitter orange peel flavor. Good - standard IPA.

Aroma is bland. Hop blend seems "muddy", and it's very overpowering. Leaves a chalky/pine feel in your mouth. Have a glass of water with it. Or maybe don't have the beer at all.

Bottle. Clear burnt orange pour with an off white head. Bland hop aromas and nondescript hop bitterness. Slight pine tang in the finish. Decent balance and body. Below average mouthfeel..

12 oz bottle. (Jungle Jim’s) Fairfield, OH.
Clear amber colour with a small white head. Quite fresh hoppy aroma with pine, spruce and mild dry bitterness. Sweet fruity hops, sweet malt and mild bitterness in the flavour. Very drinkable.

12 oz bottle from 12-pack sampler case purchased in Ohio. Served in a Sam Adams glass. A: Orange-amber in color with a large, frothy off-white head. Superior lacing and retention. S: Sweet with citrus and floral notes, and a bready malt base. T: More fruity and appealing than the aroma. Mildly bitter hop finish. M: Good medium body and medium+ carbonation. Near creamy smooth.. O: A mild IPA. More like a pale ale in terms of hops load and bitterness, and perhaps a bit light even then, but tasty and highly drinkable.

6/03/2010: Christian Moerlein Northern Liberties IPA... Aroma: Bright citrus peel hops; some general beer-yness; toffee malts. Appearance: Orange color with a slight chill haze; large, foamy, ivory-colored head; puffy lacing; medium level of carbonation. Flavor: High bitterness right off the bat; citrus peel and leafy hops; watery and grainy in the middle; slightly metallic finish; become more oily once is breathes. Palate: Medium-light to medium body; lots of carbonation. Overall: Refreshing; a beer doesn’t need to be completely balanced, but something additional is needed on the malt side of this beer; the bitterness level is nice and quite large; needs some additional body without adding sweetness...

12 fl. oz. bottle shared by Tmoney99. Thanks Tom! Rating #56 for this beer.

Chattanooga, Tn. - Riverside Wine & Spirits - 12 oz bottle. Dark orange pour, nice off-white head. Solid, patented spruce aroma. Nice bitter grapefruit notes with just a bit of caramel to balance it out, but tends to be a bit one dimensional. Slightly stinging mouthfeel. Overall decent.
