COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cincinnati’s Saengerfest choral celebrations started in 1849, and quickly became the Midwest’s most monumental festival. That led to the 1878 construction of Music Hall, just blocks away from the beer garden, which was built for the Cincinnati May Festival. The choral festival continues the saengerfest tradition, that it started in 1873. The beer is “a well balanced Maibock characterized by spicy and floral noble style hops.” It’s a deep golden lager, what is called a “blonde bock.”

6/11/2011: Moerlein Saengerfest Maibock Lager... Aroma: Clean, zesty citrus notes; crisp Pils and biscuit-like malts; floral, slightly spicy hops; fruity, Riesling bouquet. Appearance: Shiny golden yellow color with waves and torrents of carbonation bubbles; transparent complexion; large 2-3 finger puffy and airy beige head. Flavor: Lightly sweet Munich, toffee maltiness with grassy, floral hops, a mild bitterness, and a bready mouthfeel; finish drops off rather quickly. Palate: Medium-body; mostly smooth; average texture. Overall: Just okay; really mild for a Maibock; drinkable, but really nothing special; I drank one and moved quickly onto something else...

12 fl. oz. bottle from Tmoney99. Thanks Tom! Rating #17 for this beer.

Bottle. Pours an orangy copper with no head. Aroma is slightly grassy and candyish. Tastes is sweet initially with some bitterness creeping into the picture towards the finish.

Clear golden copper with an off-white two finger head that slowly reduces to a head cover, streaks of lace. Taste is very sweet caramel malt with light infusions of dark fruit and floral hops in a medium body. All move smartly to a crisp, lingering finish. The sweet side is dominant, detracting from an otherwise very drinkable brew.

32oz growler, filled about 9 hours ago from the Lager House.. There was a little bit of extra air space in the top of the growler. Totally clear orange color. Minimal bubbly white head, fades to virtually nothing. Medium-plus body. Light, crisp carbonation, pretty smooth. Some floral notes in the nose. Light caramel malt, little lightly spicy hop, little fruitiness. Pretty bready. Mostly sweet taste, a light bitterness, and a very light bite in the finish. Not a bad maibock to session

Bottle purchased at Kroger. Clear amber pour with a medium off-white head. Malty aroma with some caramel, lager yeast and a bit of toastiness. Sweet malt and caramel flavor with a light apricot character before a toasty and sweet finish.

Draft at the lager house. pours deep golden amber with a small off white head. Aroma is malty and bready with notes of biscuit and toast, a slight hop spiciness in the back. Flavor is much the same, lots of that bread and biscuit, really smooth, with a stronger herbal hop presence and light fruitiness. Medium body and a sgarp carbonation. Nice beer

UPDATED: MAY 22, 2012 Mild, almost undetectable aroma of roasted malt. Appearance has a nice amber color with a white head that starts out full and stays around. Rich roasted malt flavor with some doughy characteristics (pizza crust?) and vegital undertones. Moderately well balanced hop bitterness remains in the aftertaste. Crisp lager character. I like it. Very good effort.
