"Go big or go home".

Bottle bought @ Systembolaget. Pours dark amber with a small frothy goldenish beige head that leaves a small spotty trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is malty and slightly fruity with caramel, sweet dark bread, cereal, raisins, dates, mango, dried papaya, resinous wood, moist soil, pine needles, orange zest and hints of alcohol. Taste is sweet, bitter, slightly fruity, slightly earthy and tiny boozy with caramel, sweet dark bread, golden syrup, honey, grapefruit rinds, orange zest, dried tropical fruits, resinous wood, pine needles, moist soil, liquorice root and hints of burning alcohol. Mouthfeel is round, sticky, tiny astringent, slightly boozy and medium to full bodied. Finish is sweet, bitter, slightly fruity and slightly earthy with caramel, sweet dark bread, honey, resinous wood, pine needles, grapefruit rinds, raisins, dried tropical fruits, moist soil and alcohol. Very nice American Barley Wine. Held on to my bottle for about 6 months so it’s showing some pleasant signs of oxidation. Would have loved seeing this forgotten for about a year in a bourbon barrel.

The aroma is quite heavy and thick from sweet malts, hops and dried fruits. The flavor follows the aroma but adds some notes of butterscotch, plums, caramel leading into a alcoholic tickle on the tongue. The aftermath is warming and pleasant. It’s not the best barley wine around, but it sure is decent and well balanced. Easy to drink if you are kinda new to the style.

The aroma is strong and tangy with citrus, caramel and a bit of coffee in it. The palate is well balanced. The beer has a good body with flavors of mainly wood, hops and something simply described as "flowers". The finish has some metallic bitterness in itself, but it probably depends on the alcohol content. For being the first barley wine I have drunk it was good ... really, really good.

Bottle. Pours a deep orange-amber clear body with a small off-white head. Nose is red fruits, honey, biscuits, muscovado sugars and hints of caramel, pineapple and bready malt tones. Taste is sweet red berries, caramel, dark malts, muscovado sugar, mild cinnamon and hints of nuts and toffee. Medium to full body, medium carbonation. Quite enjoyable and rather original barley wine with a pleasant fruity touch; good stuff from Mohawk.
