COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

Appearance: Big tan head, dopper colour, lacing. Aroma: Hoppy, earthy hops, spices, but where is the malts? Flavour: Here it is, the alcohol at least, but it is confused not knowing if it is an English BW or an American one. Mouthfeel: Sharp carbonation. Total: This BW suffers from an identity crisis.

330ml bottle (shared by FatPhil, thanks). Clear copper color. Tiny size head, stays. Malty, old, sweetish, raisins, cinnamon in aroma. Dried plums, apricot, raisins, woody notes in taste. Reminds me old brandy. Dry mouthfeel. Raisins in aftertaste. Woody bitterness. Leaves my tongue glowing type of spices. Nice brew!

330ml bottle - Gift from Janne & Mirjukka - thanks!
Nice copper colour, tiny head. Very spicy aroma, tons of mint and other indian spices - like one of th raitas or other dips from the local curryhouse. Full and smooth palate, but pleasant carbonation too. Dried mixed peels, dried fruits, a wide range there - there’s everything from apricot from the heavier aspects to raspberry in the sweeter aspects. Do get just a hint of alcohol from the retronasals, but it doesn’t feel hot. Woody in the mouth, very dry, and a really bitter bite. Yet the sweetness is still there too, but only very briefly during the sipping process, as teh dry. almost white-peppery, bitterness dominates the finish. Very good use of English hops. Mint a little bit disturbing in the aroma, that didn’t disappear the whole time.

Bottle at a private tasting in Belgrade/Serbia. It pours a reddish hazy brown colour, minimal foamy head which quickly lowers. Nose: molasses, stone fruits, sweet malts, sugar. Mouth: alcohol sugar and some figs.

330 ml bottle, thanks Timo A. BBE 2013-06-30. Pours a murky ruby red colour with a white thick head. Strong aroma of biscuity malts, pepper, orange zest. Really rich and strong flavour of very bitter citrusy hops, complex caramel notes, herbal notes, very subtle berryish notes and grass. Full bodied, thick mouthfeel and very soft carbonation. The bitterness just keeps lingering and lingering. Alcohol warms nicely. More like an American Strong Ale than a barleywine. Even though past it’s BBE the bitterness is still very strong and the beer has no signs of off-flavours whatsoever. Elegant.

Thanks to Baggio for the beer. Medium orange color, white collar for head. Shows low carbonation. Nose is caramel, dried dark fruits, slight amounts of grapefruit, grass and pine. Light amounts of bread, sweetness and fruits. Hops have dropped off but there is some residual bitterness in this. Medium bodied, light carbonation and somewhat sticky. Nice barleywine. Nothing fancy though and maybe the wrong choice of hops

Bottle at the ChrisO Holiday Tasting, London - thanks to Ronny. Pours clear, copper-gold with a fine, white cream head. Sweet bready malt nose, some toffee and caramel. Big sweet flavor, more toffee, light bitter grains, toasty sugars. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Warm finish, some sweet bread, toffee, fruitcake. Sweet and tasty. Nice.

Hazy amber beer, small white head. Light semi dry palate. Aniseed and malt that has a trace of Port Wine character. Sweet caramel with estery peach and banana undertones. Vague bubblegum. Semi soft finish with mild toffee. Interesting!

Bottle at ChrisO tasting, thanks to Ronny, 30/12/12. Hazed darkish amber with a thin off white head that clears to the edge and leaves a film. Nose is dark toffee, fruits, booze, wood, touch dungy. Taste comprises dark fruit, raisens, dates, treacle toffee, sweet sugars, booze and wood notes. Full bodied, moderate carbonation, the alcohol is well disguised. Decent enough.
