A bottle saved from christmasshopping 2012. 11 months in the beercellar. Black liquid with a hint of dark red. A three finger high brownbeige head that leaves a lot of lacing. Nose: vanilla, dark bread, cream, roasted malt, licorice, dark chocolate and nuts. Taste: Dark fruit, licorice, brown sugar, coffe, roasted malt and hops. Full body with a smooth taste. A small amount of carbonate. Just right! This is a great beer!

330ml bottle - shared by mjs - thanks!
Deep roast, some milkiness, good bitter hops - altogether a very solid aroma. Some dark lager hints. Slightly ashy body. Raw. Drying. Does cover the alcohol very well, even if the taste is unsatisfying.

Bottle at a ChrisO Tasting - London. Pours black-brown with a thick beige foam head. Big alcohol and dark malt aroma. Medium to heavy sweet flavor with boozy kick, dark malts, rich dark chocolate. Full bodied with fine, smooth carbonation. Warm finish with still more alcohol bite, rich dry chocolate, roasted malts, char. Nice if a bit overly robust at times.

0.33l bottle from Barley Wine. A really deep dark brown one, can just as well call it black really and it has this amazing looking big dark dense and espresso colored head that’s refusing to go away. Looks like a million bucks, and the nose is not to bad either! Lots of cocoa, chocolate, heavy roasted malts and salty licorice. Honey is also present here as is a fresh light stingy happiness. Smells nice. Nice flavors. It has a big thick mouthfeel and a soft prickling carbonation level. Dark roasted with a sweetness well balanced. Lots of chocolate,, tons of salty licorice and dark roasted espresso. Mmhhh.. Lovely sweet and dark. A great sipper, and it’s hard to imagine that this is close to 10% abv. Hardly noticeable at all. 11.05.2013

Dark reddish brown colour with a tiny tan head. Oatmeal, chocolate, some sweetness and hops in the aroma. A bit bland flavour with roasted malt, hops, chocolate and mild coffee. I was expecting more...

(Bottle, 0.33 l, from Sytembolaget, 20130713) The beer poured almost black. Its head wad medium sized and white. Aroma had hops, citricness and rosted malts. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were roasted malts, dark chocolate, sweetness and bitterness. Aftertaste was roasty and bitter. The beer hid its abv very well but the taste was still a bit harsh.
