Dupont’s organic saison, Foret poured a glowing hazy golden into my tulip. A big 3 finger dense white head formed on the pour that slowly receded to no less than a half finger cap. As the head receded it left chunky lacing that eventually slid back into the body leaving some patchy spots behind.
As I take my first whiff I get a nose full of tart green apples. There’s a candi sugar like sweetness in the aroma but I don’t believe any candi sugar was added. Mild barnyard funkiness shows itself toward the backend. Mild grassiness as well. Very nice.
Flavor is like a big slice of tart green apple upfront followed by a quick sweetness reminiscent of bubblegum. The tart apple makes my mouth water uncontrolably. Then the sweetness calms my tastebuds until the barnyard sourness and drying kicks in. Very tasty saison.
Body is a liitle more robust than other saisons. Partially because of the higher alcohol content. It’s still on the light side of medium. The generous carbonation tickles the tongue.
I could without a doubt sip the day away with this saison. Very tasty and flavorful.
Another outstanding saison from Dupont. Wasn’t sure if I was going to be too crazy about an organically produced saison. After drinking this more than satisfies my thirst for a quality saison.
4/30/07 jasonp (1504), Sterling/Dulles, Virginia, USA May 17, 2007 Classic cloudy bright orange-golden with a thick, billowy white head. Spiciness, clove, banana and fresh grassy hops in the nose. Flavor has notes of orange, honey, zesty lemon, grass/hay, light sweet caramel, clove, banana, light pepper and coriander. Very well-balanced - less hop bitterness/emphasis than with Saison Dupont. Perfect, medium body with spritzy, fine-beaded carbonation. I enjoyed this while grilling on a sunny spring day; doesn’t get any better than that. jefcon (997), Arlington, Virginia, USA May 16, 2007 Draft. Deep amber in the glass witha sticky head. Womnderful floral aromas with a little bubblegum, a lot of delicate caramel and yeasty esters. Honey and cloves. Creamy on the palate with a lasting, spice-driven finish. Hops are present but not overbearing. Fabulous stuff.
