Commercial Description:
Famous for their Saison Ale, Brasserie Dupont is also renowned in Belgium for their Moinette. This sturdy ale has an herbal bouquet that indicates its well hopped character. But unlike its drier cousin, its body is fuller and rounder with a slightly sweet finish. Delicious before a meal and with foods like marinated meats and barbecue.

(750 ml bottle) Pours a lightly cloudy amber body with a large rocky beige head. Aroma of spicy yeast (cheese, earth, mustiness, and leaves). Flavor of raisins and spicy yeast. Enjoyable!

Brownish orange, with not that much head that died off quickly. Green apple aromas at first, followed by a freshly written off the blackboard chalky feeling, and then...dizzying and chemical like a felt pen marker. Chocolate malty sweet, with some brown sugar, not much else.

interesting the moinette abbey dubbel (brown) and trippel (blonde) are both 8.5% abv and both texas labels have the same story and description. pretty great brune here. as great as the blonde and a dimension of brown (chocolate malt). soft, chocolate and herbal. great brune for chilly nights!

The Lure:
Sweet and spicy cinnamon cream rise from the yeast, but are a bit too shy to really create interest. Head never dies though, and laces wonderfully.

The Festivities:
Dusty candi sugar and green grass hoppiness unite in a comforting, harmless cake. Yeasty delicacies undermine its soul. I admit the "Brune" had me expecting some form of dark malt flavors (roastiness, sweetness, etc.), but there definitely weren’t any. This is well-rounded dubbel with perfect carbonation, and a most appeasing and diplomatic flavor profile. Even wiser around 2 years old.

Transcendence:
Looking at the horizon, silent and content.

Green apples, brown sugar, fresh cut hay, some light spiciness. Hazy burnished copper coloured body with shy ring of off-white head. Brown sugar, grassy hops and a fair bitterness in the flavour. Doesn’t have the expected full-round maltiness. Medium body is somewhat sticky with fairly strong carbonation. Bottle (Bieropholie - Jun. 2004) sampled at the Voyager par des Papilles group tasting Feb-05.

Pours a hazy amber brown color with a very thin head. Sweet aroma and flavor of green apples and alcohol. Light to medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation.

750 mL bottle; cork date 2002: Poured a nice mahogany, murky, with a compact dense tan head. Aroma of fruit and spice, almost like a dry white wine. Flavor had a somewhat sour edge, with lots of funky yeast and hops. Mouthfeel was about perfect for the beer. It may have been somewhat past its prime, but it was still enjoyable, although at 3 years old I wouldn’t have recognized it as a Dubbel.

750 ml bottle - Whip-In Liquors, Austin, Tx. Apricot and Peach colored pour, quite murky fith bits of sediment floating about. Has a frothy, medium thick khaki colored head. Aroma has some alcohol, a bit of ginger and some yeast. Flavor is a bit complex - with chocolate, yeast, raisins, dates - blended together well. Mouthfeel is somewhat thick and creamy - a most enjoyable Dubbel.
