Famous for their Saison Ale, Brasserie Dupont is also renowned in Belgium for their Moinette. This sturdy ale has an herbal bouquet that indicates its well hopped character. But unlike its drier cousin, its body is fuller and rounder with a slightly sweet finish. Delicious before a meal and with foods like marinated meats and barbecue.

Mooi donkerroodbruin. Kleine, maar stabiele schuimkraag. Flink wat koolzuur. Ruikt naar mout, karamel, brood, pure chocola. Smaak is zoetbitterig, fris, vrij sterk, vrij zwaar. Droogbittere afdronk. Mondgevoel heeft iets espresso-achtigs. Mooi spul van misschien wel m’n favoriete brouwerij. Maar net even iets minder dan het blonde broertje.

33 cl bottle from Club de Cervezas. Pours a hazy brown color with a reddish hue and a massive soapy off-white head that diminishes slowly. Aroma is intensely fruity, yeasty and malty. Enticing notes of caramel, red apples, sour cherries, cranberries, red currants, raspberries, hazelnuts, aniseed and some white raisins. This is seriously complex and layered. Taste is sweet and intense. Some candy-sugar and caramel sweetness can be felt at times coupled with all the big "red" fruitiness. I’m sure some folks might find this one too-sweet. Yeah, maybe a little bit too much. With just a tiny bit of tartness for balance it would be worldclass. Big bodied, it feels thick and heavy in the mouth. This one is a well-made Dubbel... but after drinking the whole bottle on its own, I found a few flaws in the overt sweetness. I can just imagine how great it would be as a Sour. Maybe it’s a beer to pair with food only. Stand alone, it deserves a 3.8.

33cl bottle from SIP veini- ja õllepood, Tallinn. Pours slightly hazy brow with an off-white head. Aroma of caramel, dark dried fruits, Belgian yeast, some herbs and some slightly earthy notes and hints of alcohol. Fairy sweet, but balanced enough, rather tasty, but alcohol is a bit to noticable as it gets warmer. Nice one anyway.

1991 bottle at akkurat. This vintage is amazingly good. Super clear mahogony color with a small off white head that quickly fades away. The aroma of this beer!! Amazing! Tons of caramel, toffee, yeast, old musty cellar, caramelized figs. The flavour is on top as well, pretty much all the things you get in the aroma you get in the taste with the most well balanced flavour and complexity I’ve ever had. Holy beer this.

Bottle from Tanakaya. Poured into a Liefman’s glass. Clear dark brown with a small head that dissipated fairly quickly. Nice dupont yeast smell on the nose with some prune, praline, molasses and caramel aromas present. Slight cola-like mouthfeel with average carbonatin and a medium body. Nice fruit forward beer that’s sweet on the palate. Nice finish that has a touch of dryness but is overall sweet. Definitely prefer their drier beers, but this is OK for the style.

0,75 l bottle. Thick cap. Dark, cloudy. Hoppy taste, with strong caramel taste, that stays alao as aftertaste.
